For Malia and Barb: People are like cloth. Most of us have the same basic construction given by the DNA we know as human. Cloth has warp yarns and weft yarns and we usually recognize that construction as a piece of fabric. And then we get the variations. Some take on colors, some take on embossing or over-prints. Some are a little worn around the edges, been a few places and have a story to tell. Some come from far away places, just to be in your quilt. Some have been washed and worn by a person you and I will never meet. Some are fresh from the loom…never washed and never worn, but ready to be put in a quilt for Malia––also someone we have never seen before but who is eagerly awaited. “Quilting is the art of loving another in solitude!” Don’t know who said that, but I think of you and your mom often as I work on the quilt. Love you! Lynn 'n Ed
Though we've not met yet, I realize we have been brought together by our love of the children of China and the blessings they will bring into our lives forever more. I wish you Godspeed on your travel to Malia and prayers to our God to keep her safe, healthy and unconditionally loved until you reach her heart forever! May you enjoy her laughter and it forever to take your breath away each time you hear it! Love, Sharon in VA Hopefully, some day soon we'll meet!

Barbara and Malia, See http://www.butterflyalphabet.com for an amazing poster that Kjed Sandved spent 25 years creating: sometimes a journey of love takes a long time and a lot of patience! Each photo of a butterfly wing looks like one of the letters in the alphabet. joy, Heather McKend
She is a cutie! Have a wonderful trip to China. We loved it and I know you will love going back. We have a daughter from Hubei and we have been home since November. She is a joy and you are in for so much love and laughter with a little one in the house. Blessings on your journey. Oh, and Malia is on our "short list" of names for baby sister! No one is ever prepared to become a parent but the blessings and joys will far outway the fear. It just requires us to let go and fall into the arms of our loving God who calms all fear and loves us more than we can imagine. And so, we do the same with the children God entrust to us. Peace and blessings, Helen
On your journey I want to share a favorite quote with you ... "There are two lasting bequests we can give our children. One is roots. The other is wings." (Hodding Carter, Jr) ... I try daily to remind myself of this as I continue to try and give them wings. I hope the roots will grow and prosper! I know you will sufficiently give Malia both as the journey begins and continues. Thank you for years of support and listening -- know I'm here for the same. Love, Sheryl Tuvell
Dear Barb -- How many thousands of years ago was it that we grew up together at LBCR?? I've thought of you so many times and wondered what you were up to. Several months ago, when I saw Sydney Phillips Atkinson, she mentioned that she had kept up with you. Today, she forwarded me your email and your wonderful news. Please know that you will be in our prayers as you travel and remain in our prayers as you continue your journey into motherhood. (I started that journey only 10 years ago, so you are only a little behind me). We have lots of catching up to do, but here's the very short version. I met Phil Jones (a Disciple minister)at Vanderbilt 20+ years ago. We married and moved to Austin after graduation. I've worked as an environmental attorney "to support my church habit" and supported Phil in parish ministry. We have two kids -- Hannah Elizabeth Cralle Jones (10), and Zachary Stratton Cralle Jones (8). We've moved/served between Texas and North Carolina. This year has been very difficult, but still filled with great blessing. We moved to St. Pauls CC in Raleigh last September, in October we learn that Phil's dad has stage IV cancer, in November we learn that his mom has stage IV cancer, in December his Dad dies, in January his mom dies, and at the end of January we learn that my dad has stage IV cancer. I spent the Spring going back and forth between Texas and NC and Daddy died in June. But we have been very blessed by loving parents, good churches and great friends. I count you still as a dear friend, who was a wonderful influence on me. I cherish our years together and hope that our children will know such friendships that remain woven together across time and space. Our prayers for you and Malia and your traveling companion. May your this and every journey be blessed. Cathy Cralle Jones
This is probably crazy to submit a comment in our own guest book - but with 24 hours down and counting and at least several more hours of work - I'm just a tad stressed...I just want everyone to know how much it means to me - and some day to Malia - that you have sent a greeting! THANK YOU And Cathy - I just ran across a business card of yours a few days ago - and wondered if you were still in Austin..WHAT A GREAT surprise to hear from you! Yes, we had quite the time at camp in the summers - Pls send my love to Susan A. wherever she is - a doctor I hear! And Syd - please share with all our mutual loved ones -including Burr! Cathy, I have fond memories of your Dad..and Mom.. and that great Winnebago..my love to you, them and your whole family - may you all find comfort in the love your parents gave to you and to so many...myself included! I pray that our children have as good of time as we had...and may they also find joy(ok -unstopable laughter) in crazy experiences such as Camp Friendship - where we thought we were changing the world for those inner city kids - and perhaps we did - if only a week at time! WOW - did we have some great times at LBCR!!! It's probably a good thing I'm busy to the last minute as other wise I would be flooding the world with tears - I am by nature an emotional gal - but this next path - well in the words of 3 year old PJ - It's an adventure..it sure is.. I didn't realize it would be SO difficult to leave work - for this extended period of time - but I know I'm leaving my patients in very capable and compassionate care - and perhaps some of the finer details well, grace is a wonderful thing - and what means the most to me is there is someone(s) there in my absence who will care as deeply as I- THANK YOU BETH,Amy K. and all who will journey with our patients in my absence! Nanning or Bust! A little update on Malia today - she apparently now weighs 18.7 lbs.; 29in. Tall; has 4 teeth - and is ready to sign up for a marathon - perhaps a Tri - SO GO TEAM...continue to Light the Night - as you gather those Pennies for Patients..and shine like Diamonds as you ROCK with Bob & TOM - and just be the incredible folks that you are in our mission to cure cancer! LLS-IN Chapter - you mean the world to me - and I journey knowing I am the luckiest person in the world to work with you - staff, patients, and family! Unspeakable love, gratitude and hope to all...thank you for joining us as we move closer to= the Journey to Malia! Mabuhay(Life to you)! BARB
Barb: What a heart warming story. We never know what life is going to give us, but you've truly figured it out. Have a wonderful and safe trip. My prayers go with you and Malina. You know we have high chairs at the Legend! Becki Frechette
Barb - we are old and good friends of Lynn and Ed. We wish you and Malia the very best and hope someday to meet you both. Give her alot of love, kisses and hugs. Terry and Chris Roal
Barb, How exciting an adventure you are on. I have loved this site--what a great way to share your journey. Very fun to get to hear Cathy Cralle's news too. We will be sending you lots of thoughts and prayers the next couple of weeks. I have several families in my practice who have adopted children from China, so it is fun to follow your journey from the beginning. (I'm sure your agency has given you all the low down on the medical recomendation stuff but let me know if you have any questions.) You are at the beginning steps of life's greatest adventure--every step is fun and fascinating to watch. We would love to have you come visit--winter or summer--there is always something to do here. With much love and many blessings, Brenda, Dave, and Haakon
Brenda ~ wonderful to hear from you - can you please send me an email to my sbcglobal address/on back of card... so I can have it - especially while we are in China...? I'm counting on Haakon to teach Malia how to snow ski..even though she may take after her Mom and be more of a beach babe...never know? Looking forward to Deb and her gang coming from OK and Becky and her family coming from Italy in Dec. Hugs! Barb
Barb--you are probably somewhere over the Pacific Ocean right now, anxiously awaiting your arrival in Beijing. May your life be as blessed with Malia as mine has been with Claire, and may peace be with you. Carolyn W.
We were stranded in Tokyo in September '05 on our way to Nanning due to a typhoon. We only had one day 1 Beijing to sight see, before we were on our way to Nanning. We had "gotcha day" between the airport & the Majestic. It was definately worth the frustration as you will see. Enjoy Nanning! It is beautiful! Barb, I think you are having the adoption version of labor. The contractions come when they come with the intensity of their own. You can't stop them to take a nap and you have no clear idea when they will end or what the next phase may feel like. I've often said that labor and giving birth are gifts to us so that we can begin to understand that we are no longer in control--one of the many lessons of parenthood. So relax, let the contractions flow, don't forget to breath, and no need to push yet. You are not in control but the birth will happen. You conceived Malia long ago and she will be "born" to you when she is "ripe." Brenda
I am following your story from Minnesota - and if you're still around - not to worry! This is NOTHING of a storm for Minnesota! You'll be on that plane in no time! ~Fellow (China) adoptive mom in Minneapolis
For two days we've all been saying "wow! can you believe Barb's THERE now"......well, I just had to send an email to let people know that THERE is MINNESOTA!!! Hope you make it through the snow storm and across the big pond very soon! Take care, Julie
Barb, Sorry you have been delayed. I'll be praying for a smooth trip from here on out. Keep smiling girls! Blessings, Amy Gadapee
Barb, Well, if I recall right, you should be having lunch in Beijing about now awaiting the fun and amazement of the acrobatic show later today. You will thoroughly enjoy that, so sit close! I wanted to wish you well once again and leave you with a wonderful inspirational phrase that I repeated quite often during our entire process as a reminder of what awaited us on March 16th this year. It's an old Chinese proverb that reads, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." You will never forget that first step you took towards your thousand + miles to Malia! Counting down the days to read your wonderful updates and view Malia's first photos as your daughter. Love and blessings on your journey! Sharon, Jeff and Abbie MeiLin (DOB 01/24/05, Guangxi)
Hi my husband returned almost 6 months ago with our daughter from China. I came across you site and loved your red thread. I can't wait until your gotcha day!!! Katie Jo www.hollisadoption.com

Hope you don't mind that we'll follow along and pray for your travel and new daughter. Denise and David, Fay., NC

My name is Jody Congrats on you new daughter I am gong to follow your story as my daughter and son in law should travel soon and we are also from Indiana. I was just crushed for you when I read all the problems. I hope all goes well when you get there and give that princess alot of hugs and kisses. I hope we don't use the same travel agency you had if they were not very helpfull. Mamaw in waiting. Have a wonderful time
Dear Barbara-May the path to China be smooth beneath your feet. May you travel waters cool and sweet. And may you find along your way...a precious baby girl that has waited for this day! With butterfly kisses and sweet little hugs...the only one happiness in life is to love and be loved! Can't wait to see you and Malia! Love to you...Sissy and Fred
Your first day sounds like a hoot....maybe not to you right now, but it will one day when you have sweet Malia at home safe with you. We adopted Claire last December and I can relate to the excitement and anxiousness to get your baby in your arms! Best of luck - we will follow your trip and pray for you. Stratton, JR and Claire Bear
Barb, I am filled with joy that you and your precious daughter will finally be together! These last few days before you embrace must be the hardest...you are in my prayers for a wonderful first meeting, a safe trip home and an incredible life, filled with laughter and love that only a child can bring! We can't wait to meet Malia! Lots of love, Mandy Lewis (and Jimmy and Jensen!)
Barb and Dee, Repeat after me: "we will laugh about our trip in the future" and "none of this will matter once we hold Malia in our arms!" You are being such good sports about everything, and it's so much more enjoyable for us (as the readers) to hear about your disappointments in a uniquely entertaining way instead of complaints! What a lucky little gal Malia is! Heartfelt congratulations! Kelly in Michigan (traveling soon for Katie, in Yangdong SWI, Guangdong)
Barb- It is great to be able to follow your travels this way. Your description of the takeoff stateside is a familiar story. My thought was this has to be a fortuitous sign, as I remembered your Bombay airport run by motorcycle. Once you get going in China I look forward to tagging along with you. Best wishes, Steve
Barb and Dee, I'm really loving this journey you both are on. Thank you for sharing your stories and experiences with us. It truly brings back great memories. In case you have any spare time you may want to visit this web site. It is an audio/visual learning tool for speaking to you newly adopted daughter. http://www.wku.edu/~yuanh/AudioChinese/parent.html I meant to send it to you before your trip. Enjoy and I'm counting down the hours to Malia. Hugs and Kisses, Sharon
Barb, It sounds like you`re having quite an adventure. From the pictures it looks like the weather is holding out!! Have a great time....Kyla
Barb, I love your web site. I adopted my daughter in April 2006 from Hunan Province. You sound like an amazing person to be able to handle all the delays with a sense of humor. You are going to love motherhood! Good luck and God Bless from Ohio
My little sister is beautiful! I cant't wait to meet her and see you again! I love you bunches and I love Malia already!
GREETINGS AND WARMEST CONGRATS from Minnesota!!!! What a blessing to see that you are united with Malia. What a tiny precious child she is! Enjoy every minute of being Mom to that little bundle sent from God! Blessings to you! -Diana (10/24 LID "Journey to Mei Mei")
Congratulations!!!I happened upon you site while visiting my new grandbaby's site. Journey to Zoe. I love you sense of humor with all you delays. Great idea on the angel of the day. Enjoy every today. Your daughter is beautiful and your face says it all! Thank you God for this beautiful child you entrusted me with! Pat
Barbara-I get online nightly to see how your day has panned out and this day really brought the tears to my eyes...The sight of you holding Malia and her little arms around your neck brought the biggest tears of joy to my eyes. I had to go get Fred and show him this loving picture of the two of you! Everyday day is truely a gift and you've received the most precious one of all. We love you and can't wait to love that little girl too! Can't wait...... Sissy and Fred
Barb, How wonderful it is to see her clinging to you. I'm sure you have found it is the most loving feeling you'll ever experience in your life. I want to tell you yet another of my favorite sayings, "There is but one beautiful child in the world and every mother has it". She is so amazingly beautiful and has the most angelic face. I also agree with the man who told you that Malia has found her heaven. She certainly has in her new mommy! You will make an amazing mom and what amazing love she'll now have for the rest of her life! Rest up...your shopping instincts will totally go haywire now that you have her. You must visit the gift shop in the Majestic hotel. They carry dolls that are native to the Guangxi province only but her Chinese clothing bargains are much better in Guangzhou. I'm so tearing up for you right now. Today, as you hold your daughter for the very first time, we did the same, exactly 7 months ago today in the very same Civil Affairs office as you. I'm so happy for you both. Give her a really big hug for me and Abbie also. All my love, Sharon
Barb, I am so happy for you! She is a beautiful baby and the two of you look like you belong together! Congratulations! Rose Mary
Barb, I have been so consumed by work that I have not caught up with your website until today- "gotcha day"! What a joyous day! Congratulations to both you and Malia- I think anyone who knows you knows that you will be an amazing mother- and that you already are that "mother" for so many friends, colleagues, and patients and their families who trust in your kind and gentle way- spirituality flows from you! I have read that life is a journey, not a distination- and I can't wait to read the next chapter in yours!! Love and many blessings for a safe return! Barb Mehne & family
The pictures clearly show the delight in your eyes, and Malia is just adorable! Congratulations on being a new mom! -Greg L.
Barb, I've been following your journey and seeing the pictures of the two of you together definitely "brought a tear (or two) to my eyes"! Congratulations and I can't wait to meet Malia. Love, Kelley Sullivan
Barb, Malia is beautiful. Dave, Haakon and I are thrilled for you! Don't worry about her size or not walking. I have been amazed to watch children grow and develop once they are with their forever families. She will make leaps and bounds in her development now that she has you love and the love of your wonderful network of friends. Give her hugs and kisses from us. Brenda

Barb, I just can't stop viewing your page and adoring your photo with her at your chest and her arms around your neck. What a beautiful feeling to know she's obviously already loving you and needing the love you are providing her. She knows who her momma is. What a precious petite little angel you have. Abbie wouldn't walk by herself much while in China, so don't worry too much about that. She'll take off in due time and don't fret about her tiny stature, as you can already see, those little ones come in all shapes and sizes. She just happens to be a tiny little girl. She looks so happy and healthy. God bless you both on the rest of your journey home! Love, Sharon (Proud mommy to another Guangxi girl)
Barb, I almost forgot to mention, the Half the Sky Foundation is wonderful. Our friends have 2 daughters from China and only one was in the HTS program. There was a world of difference in their abilities then and when they came home. You are very fortunate that she was selected to be sponsored. There is also a sponsor out in the world somewhere that funded her progress. I too am a HTS sponsor for almost a year now and am on my second baby. My first was fortunate to have been referred her forever family shortly around the same time we got our referral. I hope you are able to join HTS and sponsor a little one. You will be able to see Malia's abilities a little at a time. Oh, did I already mentioned how beautiful she is. I'm looking forward to seeing your updates after Gotcha! Congrats on adoption finalization and enjoy Qing Xui (Green Hill) Park tomorrow. It's so worth seeing. Love Sharon (Abbie's momma)
Barb...Hello! I am Fred & Sissy's daughter. My mother has shared with me the joys of your adoption and I was so interested in reading about you and Malia's journey, that I read this entire page, TWICE, and will probably have to check it out again! You have a beautiful child with what appears to be a very loving and warm spirit. Congratulations on your DREAM!! I couldn't hold back the tears reading this and finding myself staring at the happy faces and embraces, as you've waiting SO LONG to hold this child. How awesome is that. I wish that more people had the opportunity to do what you're doing. The most important thing you can have in life is the hand of another who loves you unconditionally...your world will surely be complete now. Congratulations and many happy years and memories together. Much love, Deserae
Barb, I have been following your story and pictures with rapt attention...so disappointed yesterday when no new post came up. I spent too much time waiting between "gotcha" day pictures and the ones today...I kept opening up the website yesterday to see if there was anything new!! I'm just so excited! Wish you could have a video camera stream going all the time so we could walk with you and Malia. I can't stop tearing up...you two look so great together!!! She (and you) is a lucky little girl! Can't wait to meet her!
Okay Barb...that last comment was from the dope who started crying before she could get her name typed and so just clicked the submit comments button. I have to stop reading the comments from others and looking at the pictures of Malia clinging to you or I will flood my computer keyboard and shock myself right here at work!!! Love ya, Kim Watkins
yeah!! More pictures and what tears to my eyes reading about the pormises and plans for Malia. Rest easy and enjoy your free day. Grandma to Zoe
Barb...you look happier than I have ever seen you. You're going to be a FANTASTIC mom. I am so proud of you. Nana...we all know how wonderful you are. The boys and all of your buddies in room LE3 think you're the best lady for the job. We miss you so much and can't wait for you to come home! We love you gals! Love, Brooke and the boys (Jeff too!)
Hi Malia! We'll take good care of you. We know all the tricks to Nana and Papa...we'll teach them to you. Your mom is a softie too...we've all experienced her singing first hand. You'll learn to love it! We can't wait to meet you. We'll see you at the airport. Love, Your big "brothers" Drew and PJ
What a snuggly little one you have. Abbie was the 2nd from the oldest in our group and she grieved terribly for her foster family. She'll come around in no time. It was only 4 days for Abbie. I love the photos so much that I catch myself scrolling them first, then reading your daily message. Have a great flight to Guangzhou! Love, Sharon
Barb, OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! I figure you`ve been expecting that comment by now. You guys wont be home soon enough. I cant WAIT. Everyone is asking how its going so I just send them to the website. She`s beautiful. YES, I love the pink shoes. Obviously Dee had a hand in that purchase, thank god. We have to have shoes to match everything you know. You three be careful over there. I`m worried about this North Korea issue and the nuclear weapons. Many prayers are heading your way!! XOXOXO, Kyla
Barb, you don't know me, but I have been following your posts with such happiness for you. I am so very moved by your words; your ability to put emotions in writing is exquisite. Your daughter is just beautiful and the love I see between you two in the photos makes me choke up every time I read your posts! I am a mother of two, living on a beautiful island in the Pacific Northwest and dreaming dreams of maybe one day adopting, too. Thank you for all the verbal beauty and human-ness you share with us. It really has impacted me in surprising ways. Malia is so very lucky, as are you to share your life with such a sweet soul. Blessings to you! Jane
I have been following your journey in China, and just wanted you to know that I have lifted Malia and you, up in prayer! Thank you for sharing this special time in your life. May God continue to heal wounds, ...for..." He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Psalm 147:3!! God Bless you! Keisha Walker, GA.
A new family has come together. A wonderful bond I can see already. We have been real busy around here lately. Sorry I didn't get in touch with you before you left but it finally happened. We are all very happy for you and Malia. Looking forward to seeing you'll when you get back. Love ya, Hope to see you soon. Rick and Carolyn
Barb, We have been reading about your journey! What a wonderful story. And Malia is just beautiful. Hopefully we will get to meet her sometime soon. We are so happy for you and Malia is so blessed to get such a great Mom! Our prayers are with you for a safe return home. Take care, Stu and Jackie Armstrong
dear malia, have a good day, baby. g f f hgfdsazc claire (and from Claire's mommy, Carolyn...can't wait til you get home.)
It's that magical 4th day of having your little one in your arms that assures them of the powerful love that is now and forever with them. I told you not to worry! There is so much more excitement and wonderment in her face now. What a blessing to see that appear before our very eyes in such a short time. Wasn't Green Hill park absolutely beautiful? Cindy was also our guide and said the exact same thing while we were there. She also took the time to take our purchase orders for a CD chock full of native Guangxi folk songs. They are so easy to the ears and Abbie still loves to hear it play. She sang a local folk song to them one morning and 3 of our babies fell asleep! Love the photos, so keep them coming. Have a safe and easy flight to Guangzhou tomorrow evening. My prayers stay with you daily. Love, Sharon
And the Red Thread continues...You don't know me but a friend of my family sent me Malia's announcement. She knew I would enjoy it because I'm also in the process of adopting my daughter from China. My name is Beth and I have had so many Red Threads leading me to China as well. I just went through your whole journey and am touched by your story. The Symbolism of the butterfly has been a clear sign of God's presence in my journey as well. Your story is a beautiful one. Malia is precious. I wish you all the best for the rest of your trip and all of your tomorrows. Beth Cario bcario@comcast.net My log in date was March 15th 2006. (a friend of Marian Mahoney)
I'm looking foreward to her coming to my soccer games! I'll help teach her! And I bet she's going to be an actress to hmm? I can't wait to see you guys!
Barb, I have been reading each day and an so happy for you. I have a friend at the Y who I work out with that adopted from China in o1, her daughter is so cute. I was talking to her about you and she would love to meet you and Malia. Be careful and take care of your beautiful daughter.

Congratulations!!!! I am reall enjoying your posts. We were in China in April and received our daughter on April 16. I agree with you about Cindy. We were her first group and she was so genuine and sweet. We have her on video telling us the meaning of our childs name and singing folksongs with her sweet voice. Your daughter is lovely and I'm glad she is doing well. Andrea
Barb, I just saw got updated on your pics. First time since you were stuck in the airport. OH MY GOSH, she is beautiful and you look like a natural Mom. Congratulations, I keep crying. I can't wait to have you both back home. Miss you, Love, Linda K
Hello Barb, Dee and Malia! I am so excited for you Barb, it is about time, but you know what they say "good things come to those who wait" and I believe that although the wait seemed almost unbearable at time that now it is all worth it. Congradulations! I am so happy for you and I can't wait for you to return...She is absolutely gorgeous. Safe Journey.
Ok Barb, that last comment that says safe journey at the end is from me...Sara Lopez-Fajardo. Just wanted to let you know that you guys are in my prayers. Love You!
Barb, I didn't realize until your comments that there is a guest book. So here I am!! I've been following your every move and thinking that you should be an author. You have such a beautiful way with words. I can't believe how at home you two look with each other. I am so excited for you that I have chills. I know you and Malia have so many memories to make together and it's all begun already! You are just amazing, and so is Mailia, it seems. I wish you a safe trip home and can't wait to meet your daughter. I am SO happy for you! Love, Beth
I'm loving reading all about your travels (not travails!). Malia is beautiful! I can't wait to meet her. Hope you all are having a great time. Sounds like you are. Be sure to bring lots of pictures when you come back home. Be careful! Love ya, Martha (Aunt Mark to some!)
Dear Barb and Malia, Congratulations! What a beautiful baby and I can tell from the photos that you are very proud of her. This website is fantastic - this is the first chance that I've had to view it. Tell Dee that Angela's wedding was wonderful but we did miss her! I know that you are looking forward to being home with your new precious bundle! Love, Linda H
Tears streaming... what a wonderful gift you are to each other. Traveling mercies until Malia meets her new village. Glenda
Oh how I LOVE LOVE LOVE reading about your adventures. I just can't wait to get my hands on that sweetie pie. I just hope she doesn't pee on me too!! You did get the quote right Barbie. Motherhood has done fabulous things for you! PJ and Drew are so excited to meet Malia and to get their hands on Nana. Drew wanted to let you know that he's glad she looks so happy. Mr. Safety also wanted to know if Malia will have a car seat when she gets home. I assured him that it was all taken care of. PJ wanted to let you know she's little, like a mouse. They're going to teach her wonderful things...just wait. I love you three so much! Have a wonderful trip. XOXO, Brooke

Barb---Malia is one lucky little girl. Between you, your wonderful friends and family, she can't be anything but the very best at whatever she tries. Looking forward to meeting the "little one" and getting, again, a chance to purchase little girly things. Dee, you are the very best. My brother doesn't realize, or maybe he does, what a super person you are. Jeannie
Barb, Dee and Malia: Wow, what a journey! I am one of Dee's tennis buddies. (We are going to miss you tomorrow Dee). Malia is so beautiful. I wouldn't worry about "failure to thrive". I know my good friend drove herself crazy when her daughter was very slow to begin speaking. Now at 12, they can't shut her up. We still laugh about that. She looks very healthy and I just read all your entries. You can see in the pictures that she looks happier as each day goes by. Good luck on your trip home. I'm sure all your angels will be watching over you........Sara Dyer
Barb, I finally got on your site and have read your journey. Wow!! Can't wait to see you in Indy! We'll be arriving Saturday night 28th! Welcome to motherhood... the best adventure you've ever experienced AND WE HAVE BOTH HAD SOME ADVENTURES!!! Love, Becky
Barb, Thanks for the photo of you, beautiful Malia and my old friend Hebe. I'm sure she treated you very well at her shop. Of course, Jeff said she spotted me a mile away on my shopping adventures. She probably did make a mint off me but I couldn't resist her shop. Tiny wasn't it? Malia looks so much happier as her days with you go by. What a dream come true to see her smile that beautiful shy smile. Gosh, I sure remember the medical clinic and how rough they seemed with all the babies. They have gone through so much to be in your arms and then to have held down is just more difficult for them. But you're all done now. You only have a few more days left! Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. Through your eyes I'm reliving it again after 7 months of being home. How wonderful. Love and prayers. Sharon
What an Amazing, wonderful journey!!! Mailia is so beautiful!!!! Congratulations Barb... Best Wishes to you all as you continue the process of coming home. Love, Stacy, Steve, Sam and Stephanie

Barb, I'm keeping all three of you in my prayers for a safe return. It will be an extrordinary trip for all of you, but especially little Malia. With that smile she's exuding right now, it's very obvious of her happiness with her new family, so I'm positive she'll be wonderful on her flight home! Blessings to you all. Sharon

Hi Barb and Malia, Glad you are home safe and sound. Look forward to seeing more pictures! Have a handsome little boy, Carter, looking for a girlfriend--likes football and long walks, Nicole PSM friend in San Antonio
Dear Barb and Malia, I just got to see all your photos and read about your journey, almost as special as following one day at a time. Malia is just adorable. You two are already starting to resemble each other--you both have the dimple thing going! We are so happy for you and know you and she will both thrive in your relationship. One word of warning, it may be quite a while before Malia comfortably lets you out of her sight--it took months before Fredo could even be one room away. Welcome back to Indy...hope we get to see Malia soon! When Nana Dee isn't available for babysitting, think of Nana Holly
Barb, Jolee is having trouble sleeping at night so as we set and watch her play with her toys I have been reading your jpurnal. Everything that you have stated has nearly brought tears to my eyes. It was so beautifully stated. Michael and I are glad to be home but we still miss all of our travel group. You have dearly touched our lives. We have been having jet lag really bad. Jolee has changed so much since being home. She is so happy and has such a twinkle in her eye. I am now her best buddie. She laughs aloud and her smile is contagious. She was destined to be my daughter. Hope all is well with you. Keep writing in the journal as I will be reading again. Kiss Malia for me. Rene Morgan
Thanks for sharing your trip. I enjoyed following your journey as my children are going to being leaving Indianpolis November 30th. That baby is a doll and she will forever change your life. Good luck and have fun. Jody Colwell

WELCOME HOME MALIA...and of course you too Barb and Dee! I'm so happy to hear your new life with Malia is looking brighter after such a hard time with being ill. She's a beauty. I absolutely love the "bad hair" photo. Get used to that. At least until her hair grows out considerably. She's just way too cute for her own britches! Stay warm up there. I'm thinking of ya while I [still] bask in mid-upper 70's weather here in VA. Love, Sharon
I have totally enjoyed reading your journey to Malia. Take care of each other! God Bless! Amanda P.
Barb, I have to know..where did you get Malia's ADORABLE flower costume? denice1027@yahoo.com

Dear Friends and Loved Ones ~ I would like to ask for special prayer requests for a dear child in Colorado who is battling a rare form of leukemia. She is preparing for tranplant with her brother Charlie as her donor. Please add Emma, her brother Charlie, and her parents Dave and Kate to your prayers. Emma is 11 years old and she is definitely my hero today - "We are each of us Angels with only one wing. And, we can only fly by embracing each other." ~ Luciano de Crescenzo
And that gentle plea comes from me - Barb ~ Mother to Malia
I am so glad to get to "meet" you through your travels! I laugh so hard and cry with you at your blessing. I wish I could meet you in person. Hi BArb and Malia- I am catching up with your trip--gave the info to Barb Rice as well, so you may hear from her. Sounds like your journey has been long, yet is just beginning also! I loved reading about the trip, seeing and being with Malia every day. And you're right--you will probably have time just a couple times a month to keep this up!! Welcome home--oh, glad to hear Tanner and Malia have made "peace". I worried abt my dogs and cats with the kids, but it always worked out. Emily is fine--had her 18th birthday, we threw a big party for her with about 50 ormore of her friends. It went well and was lots of fun. she'll have to meet Malia one of these days. Love, Nancy Jackson
OMG Barb! Hi, this is Tammy, Kyla's friend from ICU. I just happened to be searching the internet for China Adoption stories and I found your site. Kyla had told me you were adopting from China and I knew you were in the waiting process but I didn't realize that you were home with your new daughter.....how wonderful!!! I have researching adoption for quite a while now and China is one that I'm very interested in. I love your Blog and your baby girl is gorgeous!!!
