GOODBYE CHINA, HELLO HONG KONG, WE'RE ON OUR WAY HOME!!!

Today began with a busy pace and ended equally busy. In fact more so than we expected. After breakfast we went to the bookstore and picked out a few special books for Ju-lie and Dad. Then it was off to finish our packing while Ju-lie napped. After that we went to Lucy’s for our final lunch. Lucy’s is the only American style restaurant that we could find. Since we arrived we have enjoyed eating there along with many of the other families. Once lunch was through, we returned the stroller we had borrowed from Jennifer’s and went back to our room to meet our group in the lobby.

At 2:45 pm we boarded our bus and set out for the US Consulate. It is a building much like Motor Vehicles in New York. Except that you can only bring your passport, no personal effects in the building. Our appointment was very brief and the swearing in process was done as a massive group. We were one group of many scheduled at that time. The babies will officially become American citizens once they arrive at Newark airport and pass through immigrations. This step was the first in the process, so many details.

After our swearing in we said a sad goodbye to Der and Helen and parted ways. We were now back in the hands of Ben our Hong Kong guide who first welcomed us here. He made the two hour bus ride very pleasant for us all with his humor and interesting facts along the way. We drove mostly through industrial areas, but now and again we caught glimpses of the countryside. The mountains here are spectacular and we saw so little it made me long for much more. They are nothing at all like the dome mountains of upstate New York, but very beautiful.

Our first checkpoint on the journey home was exiting China. Here we had to leave the bus, go through immigrations and customs then board a different bus. All of our luggage was inspected and moved to the new bus. The rules are very strict and our original bus cannot leave China and enter Hong Kong. This checkpoint was very busy and very crowded. It made me quite uncomfortable because of the strict nature of bringing the babies across the country borders, all the while praying we would be accepted. Thankfully it was uneventful and we were able to pass on to the next checkpoint in Hong Kong. At 9:00 pm we arrived at the airport, ready to settle down for the night. This will be my last post until we arrive home. It will be SO good to see our boys, our family and our friends. We miss you all VERY much.

We did not send photos today as we are connected at the airport and it is very slow. More will be sent on our We’re Home post, I promise.

PRAYERS: For safe travel on the flight home. That the babies will tolerate the 14-hour flight without too many tears and agony (for parents too!)

PRAISES: That we were given our VISA’s for the babies, that we were admitted to Hong Kong successfully, that the babies are healthy and ready to go home. That all parents are healthy are even more ready to go home. Lastly, to all our family and friends who have helped us on this wonderful journey to Ju-lie Grace Chun Turiel. If it were not for you loving care for all of us this simply would not have been possible.

We are eternally grateful for all you have done. All praise and glory to our Heavenly Father for keeping us safe in His loving care.
