Waiting for Referral
First Letter  |  May Letters  |  July Letter  |  October Letter  |  March Letter  |  July Letter

Dear Ju-lie,

When I first heard that we were adopting I was excited. I didn’t know what to think that I was getting a little sister. I thought I’d always have a brother and that’s all it’d be. But when I found out that we were getting you, I was even more excited.

I’m looking forward to meeting you and I want to teach you things like how to ride dirt bikes and all kinds of boy stuff and some girl stuff too cause I know our Mom is looking forward to having you as much as me. The wait will be long but I think I can make it because I know adoptions take a long time.

Hopefully I can go to meet you with Mom and Dad but I don’t know for sure because of school. When we came up with your name I thought it would be an American name but we twisted together an American and Chinese name, which I really like.

I pray for you every night that God will keep you safe. So, I can’t wait until you get here and I can finally meet you so we can have tea parties together.

From your Ge-ge with love,

Mitchell

Dear Ju-lie,

As I’m waiting for you to arrive I don’t know quite what to expect cause I’ve never had a sister before, so it’s kind of uncertain. I’m slightly anxious, in a good way, for the adoption to be over with, but not as much as Mom and Dad because I haven’t had as big a part of it. But when the referral is close to getting here I’ll start to get more anxious then!

I’m a little nervous but excited too about tea parties and pink fluffy dresses and all the things little girls do. I can’t wait to get to know you and help you assimilate into our family and have lots of fun with you too.

I make it a point to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. And when my friends ask how things are going I keep them filled in on the latest news that is going on with you.

Love from your Ge-ge,

Matthew

Dear Ju-lie,

Your Daddy and I have had a lot of work to do to keep us busy while we are waiting for your arrival. We have been busy making a playroom for you, putting in another bathroom and planning for your nursery. Your big brother Matthew is excited for these changes too because his room will become your nursery. He will then receive a new location for his bedroom. We also have had a beautiful oak high chair made special just for you with your name on it by our dear friend, Rev. Carroll Newquist.

Many well-meaning friends ask us frequently, “So, you should be traveling to get Ju-lie soon right?” Our hearts break every time that we have to say that we just don’t know when it will be anymore. It’s hard to believe that back in May of 2005 when we started the paper chase we naively thought that this month we’d be receiving our referral. Now, after many, many deeply disappointing setbacks we have forced our hearts to remain “on hold” for you releasing any expectations as to timing for referral and travel dates.

One thing is certain in all this though. We are confident that God knows exactly who you are and has perfect plans to bring you home to your forever family when His time is right. So, in the meantime we are enjoying the beautiful spring weather, planning our summer vacation to Virginia, and looking forward to the freedom of school being out soon.

Dear, sweet, precious Ju-lie Grace, you remain in our thought and prayers each and every day and night. Somewhere far away your life is unfolding and we cannot wait for the day when we touch your tender little hand for the first time and become your forever family. May God wrap you in His arms and hold you tight until we meet.

Oceans of Love and Prayers,

Mommy, Daddy, Matthew & Mitchell
