CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN

"It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters in the end." ~Ursula K. LeGuin

Today we went to Baiyun Mountain or translated, White Cloud Mountain. It was absolutely breathtaking! What beauty in this world our God has created! And speaking of our beauty, SarahPearl, we want to thank Him for creating her and choosing us to be her family. We are truly grateful to have this special child in our family.

Kate has been talking about this day spent on the mountain since she decided to come to China. Our family has always enjoyed being outside and enjoying nature, so this was a good day to share with SarahPearl. We took a taxi to a spectacular garden and then a cable car up the mountain. The view was amazing! We could see the Guangzhou skyline in the distance, and all this beautiful foliage down the mountain. Kate decided to climb farther to the top with Mary, while Meghan, SarahPearl and I waited for them. It was pretty steep at that point, and we had the stroller and a baby who wants nothing to do with it. SarahPearl has decided that I am her preferred mode of transportation and gets so sad when I don't have her in my arms. Then when she is back in my arms, she has saved some of the drama just for my benefit and whimpers some more letting me know her displeasure. She can really make such a sad face. When Kate returned, ecstatic with all she had seen, (apparently, there is a wishing tree with red ribbons tied all over it, as well as a place for couples in love to place their promises) we took a golf cart down the scenic route, flagged a taxi and went back to the city. It was just an awesome park, so undeveloped compared to everything else we have seen. It was really neat that so many people were there, taking part in all kinds of activities, besides walking. There was a group of people singing, some playing a game, and others celebrating a birthday.

At the beginning of this adoption process, if I would have looked at the practicality of it, and not had an open heart, I would not have this little girl who is so perfect for our family. I can tell I have many days ahead that I will be tired because of this "moderate sleeper", days of complete chaos, and imperfection as a parent. But I also know that there will be days of much happiness and joy and laughter. I know that so much is new to this little girl and I will be there with her. She will never go to bed lonely or hungry or cold again.

Tomorrow, we visit the orphanage that has cared for her these last 2 years. Keep us in your prayers as I know this will be a challenging trip for both of us. She needs to have some closure and good- byes and the nannies who have cared for her need to see that she has her Mama now. And I need to see and understand her history, so that I can better parent her.

Again thank you for all your guestbook comments. They are so encouraging!

Julia
