THE KISS
There are three
things that will endure---faith, hope, and love---and the
greatest of these is love.
~1 Corinthians 13:13
Today was so incredibly special. It was the first kiss! Sarah
Pearl had not left my arms, lap, or body all day. She wasn't
feeling well and had glued herself to me wailing loudly if held
briefly by a Jie-jie so I could go to the bathroom. So, as we
were sitting in the hotel room, and I had kissed her hundreds of
times, she turned, and tried her best to reciprocate with a
smooch on my chin! She puckered up and put her mouth there. It
was such a surprise! What a blessing this child is!
We finally had a day to rest. It was pouring torrential rain and
thundering. Kate was feeling very sick with respiratory symptoms
and SarahPearl's congestion and cough seemed worse. We really
needed to slow down and catch our breath. We didn't get going
until after 11:00 and then thought we could skip through all the
puddles with our umbrellas for a trip to the Pearl Market. It is
amazing how fast those pearls can be knotted and strung. We were
quite impressed! We had 3 small bracelets made for our girl and
she wore them proudly back to the hotel, looking at them all the
way. We also discovered how much she likes shoes. Whenever we
pass a rack of them, she stretches her leg out and starts
wiggling her little foot! It is so cute and silly. Meghan, of
course, was very pleased with this behavior, as it indicates
that in spite of SP's quiet manner and observation skills, that
she might have alot in common with her! We were hoping to get to
the zoo with Lily's family, but the rain and illness kept us in
the hotel room. We will try that excursion on Monday after
paperwork.
We made a trip to the Dr. at the White Swan for SarahPearl.
(Kate should be the next one to go, if I can convince her) She
has bronchitis and he recommended 3 medications and an
antibiotic. She had a breathing treatment there and will go back
in the morning for another. She took to it like a pro and
actually opened her mouth for it and hung onto the tubing. I
suspect she has had some experience with this and will have to
get that evaluated when we get back to the U.S. While I was at
the White Swan, Meghan had a massage, so she was totally relaxed
when SP and I returned to the Massage Center for her. We walked
to Starbucks and I have to admit how good it felt to be there!
We have tried to absorb as much Chinese culture as we can while
we are here, and have intentionally avoided Western
establishments. I have enjoyed all the Asian food since we
arrived so I was surprised at the happiness I had walking into a
place with such a familiar smell!
Please keep Sarah Pearl's and Kate's health in your prayers.
Kate has to leave on Monday morning for Minneapolis and needs to
recover. I can't wait to see what SP is like if she feels
better.
You are all a blessing to us. Thank you for your prayers and
encouragement.
