Our Story

There is nothing indeed which God will not do for a man who dares to step out upon what seems to be the mist though as he puts down his foot he finds a rock beneath him. ~F.B. Meyer

When we traveled to China to adopt Samantha we met John Bentley and his son Levi in the Beijing Airport. We didn’t know it then but this divine meeting would lead us to our son. John was leading Harmony Outreach and we wanted to know how we could get involved. We began sponsoring children in 2006 shortly after returning home. In the summer of 2008 we received a picture of our newest sponsor child, a little boy they called Tom. He was adorable and for the first time since adopting Sam we began to seriously consider adopting again. When we inquired about Tom we were told he had a forever family waiting for him. We were so happy for Tom but a little sad for ourselves. It was then that we were told about Adam.

Adam was about the same age as Tom with the same medical condition. I would love to say we jumped right in to the paperwork. We did not. This precious child did have Spina Bifida but a much more complicated case. We were afraid. We released him into God’s hands and prayed for a forever family to come and adopt him. We prayed for a family who was equipped to handle his special concerns. Little did we know we were that family. During the 5 months we spent praying we heard many things speak to our hearts. God does not call the equipped but equips the called. God is calling. By faith will you answer?

In February of 2009 Greg sent an email to Harmony Outreach inquiring about Adam’s condition. Lily, the house director, emailed back that medically things were the same as they had been back in August of 2008. She ended her email response by stating that Adam is a very good boy. It was this one statement that brought us to tears and to a realization that this boy is more than a medical condition that we had been focused on. He is a human being worthy of love and a family.

We also knew this was a family commitment. Once we were sure all our kids were for it and we were “All in for Adam” there was no turning back. He is not just a good boy. He is our good boy!

Psalm 34:4 “I sought the Lord and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
