We're Home

Saturday, March 1, 2008

I promise I will update the site with the “While in China”, but for now I thought I would start off with a “We are Home” update.

We arrived home on November 29, 2007, greeted by family and friends who were waiting at the airport with balloons, flowers, and lots and lots of smiles. While everyone was interested in seeing Alana, she was more interested in the balloons. The balloons were actually a blessing, because they kept her pacified on the two hour drive home.

At home we were greeted by an overly excited dog named Suzie. At first Alana did not know what to think of Suzie, and Suzie did not know what to think about Alana, but the two quickly warmed up to each other. The cats on the other hand are not as enthused about Alana’s bonding efforts. She absolutely loves the cats, but they prefer her from a distance.

Alana started walking on Christmas Day 2007. She had been walking around the coffee table or while holding onto something, but this was the day she let loose and started walking on her own. What a day to remember this special moment. There was so much going on, and she didn’t want to miss a minute, and once she took that first step she never looked back.

She has adjusted well to her new life, and spends her day ruling the house. She chases the cats, and gets tickled when the dog takes food from her hand. A stacking cup and a Piglet figurine become a coffee cup and spoon as she mimics Mommy stirring her coffee. She is a prissy little girl who does not like to get dirty, and enjoys getting dressed up with bows in her hair. She wakes up every morning with a smile on her face, ready to play patty-cake and dance to any music. Her favorite meal is anything with mashed potatoes and green beans, with a bowl of cantaloupe for dessert.

When she holds my face in her little hands and gives me a kiss, then leans back and smiles…….my heart melts and I thank God for this amazing little girl, my daughter.
