TWO YEARS SINCE LID

“May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond.”
~Irish Blessing

Sunrise, Sunset
When the sun sets here on the East Coast, it is just beginning to rise in China. I know that as each day passes I am one day closer to bringing my daughter home from China. I remember going to the beach and as all children do, would try to “dig my way to China”. I can’t help but think that the saying has so much more meaning to me now, than just playing in the sand. Literally, I am digging through the paperwork again and as I write this update I have also started a third letter to U.S.C.I.S (United States Citizens Immigrations Services) to ask for an extension, which requires a third trip to Norfolk to reprint my fingers. Could the connection be that my daughter may be from the coastal regions of China…? Quite possibly! I do remember looking up at my parents, as I would dig in the sand and ask, “How much longer do I have to dig to reach China?” My parents were there to encourage me…”Keep digging!” They’d say. As I do the paperwork, I feel that same sense of excitement knowing what the outcome will be….only now it’s not just reaching water in the bottom of the hole; it is meeting up with my child who is half a world away. Yes, my parents are still encouraging me as I continue to wait. So how many more sunsets and sunrises will there be before I receive the news? Again, the answer is still a mystery!

Who ever said,
“No news is good news?”

Currently, the CCAA has finished matching families with Log In Dates (applications) of January 4,th 2006! This is great news because they have finally reached the applications for the year 2006. However, the pace hasn’t changed! It appears that the matching of families with children is taking an average of one week per month to make the matches. Where does that put me in the timeline? Based upon current trends and number crunching, I suppose it means I could possibly hear of the good news between September and December of this year. As I mentioned in a previous update, there is also the Summer Olympics in Beijing to weave into this intricate timeline. So that makes the guessing game even more challenging. Again, I am fine and confident that I will receive the call when the time is absolutely perfect. All will be well ….for so many reasons….some of them unknown.

Wishes, Prayers and
Fortune Cookie Quotes
Fortunately, the time I’ve had to wait has been motivating and filled with wonderful moments catching up with friends and collecting wishes, prayers and poems for this sweet little album. I’m excited to say that I have finished covering the small keepsake album and will soon have the gorgeous fabric squares sewn into a special quilt. What a treasure!

Throughout this process, I have been a believer in the validity of the fortune cookie sayings. Needless -to -say, I have saved all of my fortunes from the cookies I have received over the past three years, starting with the one that got me to realize my dream and act upon it. One of the pages in this album is dedicated to preserving these tiny typed words of wisdom to reflect on later. Ironically, I received one that reads, “For best results wait until winter.” Yet again, another Red Thread in this amazing journey. If you haven’t seen my Red Threads page take a look at the updated pictures.

Before I close this chapter of the update, I want to say THANK YOU to EVERYONE for your continuous support, words of encouragement, guestbook messages, prayers, and hugs. These gestures have helped sustain me through this long wait and I can’t even begin to share with you how moved I am by the depth of support. I’ll leave you with a final story and words from a beautiful song….stay tuned …..

A Song
While searching the WWW for information, I stumbled upon the most gorgeous song about a mother waiting for her child from China. The title of the song is “I Will” and it is written by Patty Stevenson. It is so beautiful and certainly captures so many of the feelings we waiting parents have. Because of my passion for music and my interest in making connections, I wrote to Patty to tell her how beautiful this song was. I want to thank her for being so gracious and supportive during this waiting time. Anyone who has adopted internationally will want to have a copy of this beautiful CD.
See below for more details:

“I Will”

"My heart knows no distance, travels miles every day to an ancient land so far, far away. I will travel those miles so that we can meet, a child of wonder, a child so sweet. If I have to go halfway around the world to meet you I will, I will."

This is a page from the 100 wishes album. One of the fortunes on this page says, "For best results, wait until winter!" Hmmm!!! Another says,'' You'll find success in whatever calling you'll adopt." Of course, the page started with, "Your dreams are never silly, depend on them to guide you!"

It's a panda party!
