Waiting for Referral

Tuesday, October 16, 2007 “The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough.” -Rabindranath Tagore How easy it would be to count time in moments, especially the fun-filled, laugh 'til your sides split, friend-filled ones! If I am counting time in that way, then it certainly has "flown by" rather quickly. But the truth is, this waiting game has lasted nineteen calendar months from my log in date. Right now, I can only continue to speculate that the wait time will take me into the new year. There is another belief in China, besides the "Red Thread" that states if you see a ladybug, then your referral is soon to arrive. Well, since August I have had many ladybug sightings...the first one occurred when I walked into my new empty classroom for the first time this summer! A giant, 3-D ladybug sticker was stuck to the corner of the computer on my desk! Then I received an envelope in the mail with a shiny ladybug sticker on it. The next one was on the inside of the most precious tea cup a friend gave me. Soon another and another have appeared on cards or on notes....Now, I'm not certain if the stickers count or not as sightings, (I know it is a stretch) but it certainly is one of those traditions to hold on to!!! I think the best little sighting I've had of a ladybug is Zorro in his Halloween costume! What a sport! I do really feel like I am reaching that final stage of waiting and feel a sense of peace in this amazing process. There is a light at the end of this tunnel! Fortunately, I have been able to really prepare for this upcoming change in my life and look forward to the day I receive my daughter's picture. Whether it is in moments or months, I'm sure the rest of the wait time will continue to be filled with special memories. Again, thank you for taking time to share in my journey. The thoughts, prayers, notes, quilt squares, wishes, phone calls and especially the "Butterfly Stories" you all share with me, are all deeply appreciated and tucked into my heart. Your thoughtfulness is what makes this wait feel like moments!
