Today has been a very long but very good day. We left the hotel
at
8:30 am and returned at 8:15pm. We went to Tiananmen Square and
the
Forbidden City first. The Olympic countdown is right in the
middle of
the square. We still can't believe we are really here, it feels
surreal. It is so strange to see everything for real. Gardner
you
would have taken about 500 pictures to my 75:)
We then went to a jade factory where Hank bought me a bracelet
to
give to Madeline someday. It is a Chinese custom for a mother to
wear
the bracelet as her daughter grows up and give it to her when
she
leaves home.
Next we went to the Great Wall and it is everything people say
it is
and more. Really breath taking. John David made it to the 2nd
tower
with Hank carrying him up the really steep parts:)
We finally made it to dinner at 7:00 and John David slept the
whole
way through:) This dinner was the first unusual food we had.
Molly,
you probably would not have liked it:) I think we were all so
tired
that we didnt even care if we ate or not.
Tomorrow morning begins the day we came here for. We meet in the
lobby at 8:00 to head for the airport to fly to Nanchang. We wil
get
Madeline late that afternoon. We are all really nervous and
excited.
John David got into bed tonight and said he gets to meet his
sister
tomorrow, so sweet. We are so thankful that our trip has gone so
well
and that God has brought us across the world to get our new
daughter.
The next time we post we will have her!!!
Happy birthday tomorrow Claire if I forget to tell you with all
the
excitement!!!
Love,
Hank, Paige, Julianne and John David
