Today we went to this amazing village about an hour and 1/2 from the city. There were 3 families on this journey of wonder. The place was so rural there were times we didn't see another car for miles. And we had to go over a "ferry" over the river. But don't let that fool you. The roads fit about a car and a half and we were on a bus, and whenever we DID pass another car or bus, truck, person or cow, it cause mild heart attacks. The fact that we were not in the city did not make riding a vehicle any safer. But enough about the fact that we continue to trust these people with our lives.

We went to this village that s 400 years old, but people still live there. Like it was 400 years ago. And not for show. Real life. It was wild to see little old ladies squatting down for hours, sewing. I would have not been able to get up.

They seemed to look at our children and understand. And accept. These people are not affected by much. They survive. This is her country and I want to remember this for her. Remember the little boy in the doorway looking at us in wonder, as he had probably never seen such an odd looking people. Remember the little old woman who sold shoes she was making right there and then, for a dollar and 50 cents. Remember the elderly men sitting playing games, watching life go by. These are her people. They are her heart.

After we got home, Jim & Valerie (Imerie's parents from Georgia) took us to the market they found. It was so cool. We bought cookies & raisins. Samuel & Elena were happy. And then we went to Pizza Hut. Elena had her first taste of soda, and she was not impressed. She thought it was funny, and made John drink it so she could laugh at him. I think it made her mouth feel funny and she wanted him to experience it too.

And she had her first bath!!! My mom gave her a bath and shockingly, she liked it. She doesn't like much change right now.

Tomorrow we leave from Guangzhou. The last 1/2 of the trip. But first we go to the Nanning Museum. I love museums. We will see if it lives up.

Quote of the Day:
Sara, the guide when asked if people need a license to drive "Oh yes! And you have to take classes for months before you can try for the test! And you have to renew every year." SHOCKER.
