CALLIE AT LAST!

For all of those who prayed for Callie’s gotcha day to go smoothly, a big thank you . Honestly, it couldn’t have been any better. She walked into the civil affairs office with two employees from the orphanage, who explained to us that she had been told all about us and that she said she wanted to have a family. She came straight to us and began interacting with the kids, never appearing at all afraid or uncertain. She went willingly with us to the other room to have pictures made, and sat In our laps for the photo, then went back to playing with the toys we had brought, showing us the things she had brought in her bag as well.

When it was time to leave, she took Maili by one hand and Holt by the other and walked to the van. All the way to the hotel she and Maili took pictures of each other and talked on their cell phones, giggling the whole time. When we arrived at the hotel, she took each of the by the hand again and walked all the way to the room holding their hands.

Once inside, the three of them have done puzzles, watched movies, and played together all afternoon. Out of all of us, she seems to have a definite preference for Holt, and she keeps playing peekaboo with him from the doorway and giggling and running away when he peeks back at her. Several times she has just walked up to him and stroked his face tenderly and smiled at him, then she runs away quickly and giggles. She is very meticulous and wants everything in its place, which is the way Maili was before we corrupted her, ha ha. Every time someone finishes a drink or takes their shoes off, she is right there to throw away the trash or line up the shoes by the door. She has such a sweet nature and has no problem sharing with everyone.

To our surprise, she pulled out pictures she had evidently colored for us and proudly passed them around. She named each person as she handed the out, Mama, Baba, JieJie and GeGe. We had sent her a bunch of hair accessories in one of her care packages and she came to us wearing most of them! The remainder she pulled out of her bag and proceeded to put in Mama and JieJie’s hair, giggling the whole time. She loves all thing girly, and she came to us wearing one of the dresses we had sent to her, along with two necklaces and a ring.

She thoroughly enjoyed her spaghetti lunch, and then proceeded to clean up by putting all of the trash in the trash can and bringing everyone their own drink to finish up.

She has been an absolute angel and Jamie and I keep looking at each other waiting for the other shoe to drop, thinking surely it can’t be this easy. She has been nothing but absolutely sweet and adorable, and we couldn’t be happier.
