Today was our first full day in Guangzhou. We had the routine
doctor’s visit for Ean. We went with our group of five families
from the Bay Area/Eureka; just a short walk from the hotel. It’s
chaos at the “hospital”, masses of families with adopted kids
proceeding through the three different stations. Not a thorough
exam by any stretch of the imagination, but Ean passed.
After the doctor’s visit we met directly with our guide to
complete the paperwork. The guide requests that only one parent
come to the meeting, and no children are allowed. Well, this was
a problem because when I am out of Ean’s site he screams himself
into a frenzy; he will not stop, he can not be comforted. So…I
was there for fifteen minutes when Myron showed up with Ean; he
immediately stopped crying when he saw me. Myron sat him on the
couch, where he stayed content for over an hour while I finished
the paperwork.
The rest of the day was spent napping, shopping, getting our
laundry done, and eating at Lucy’s (an outdoor “American” type
café). We have encountered the same problem every time we
venture out. Ean insists that I either hold him or push his
stroller. Ting, who
normally doesn’t care about such trivial things has turned this
into a contest for mommy’s attention. She will scream and pour
on the fake tears in perfect time with Ean. There have been
times that I actually carried them both just to get a minute of
peace and silence. We solved the problem this evening when we
happened upon a store that sold double strollers. For a little
over $30 USD our life changed dramatically for the better.
Sometimes it’s the little gifts from God that mean the most!
Ethan's
Entry
Today I went to breakfast and than I wanted to go
swimming. We went swimming, but the water was COLD so I
did not stay in for long. My mom was doing paper work in
the lobby, and than she finished and came to the pool. We
left the pool and got a new room, because they did not
give us adjoining rooms. We than went to lunch at Lucy’s.
We borrowed strollers at the store “Home of Love”. We than
went shopping, and I would say that was the funnest part
of the day.
Eli's Entry
Today started out great; breakfast was magnificent
omelets, fruit, and waffles galore. We came back to the
room and the trouble started. Medical examinations,
paperwork and more paperwork. It lasted for about three
hours, probably more. It felt about ten times longer then
what it really was, and all I could do through out this
whole time was sit and watch TV (oh the joy). Finally,
after a tremendously long wait I was allowed to swim. You
would think this would be fun but the water felt like it
was 0 degrees Celsius; I could hardly stick my foot in the
water but I did jump in three times any way. After a brief
swim it was time to shop, but who wants to buy garbage or
look at it for six or seven hours at straight? All we
looked at was squeaky shoes, scrolls, lanterns, chops, and
toys for babies, ECT. After some extremely boring shopping
we finally got some good old American food at Lucy’s. I
had some superb calamari rings. Then back to the hotel for
sleep, finally. |

Ean made it to the medical appointment, bacon in hand.

This is an example of a "first course" for Ean.
He will eat all this fruit and then
a full plate of eggs, bacon,
and chinese food! |
