I guess we kind of left you hanging on Wednesday. Things are getting easier for me since Eliana will go to Tom. She LOVES to interact with him, as long as I am holding her. She says mama, so cute. I don’t care if she really is not putting two and two together,I want to think that she really has linked the word with me. When Eliana is awake, she is going a million miles a minute. Meals can seem like wrestling matches when she is done eating. On a positive note, she is a GREAT eater; she will try just about anything. Eliana loves eggs, bananas, rice, watermelon, Cheerios, just about anything that she can bite and mash up in those gums. Eliana loves to babble and play. She is very curious and loves to look at the detail of things. Just yesterday, she started exploring a bit. She doesn’t stray too far though. She loves the entry floors, I am not sure why, ours at this hotel is granite. I guess it is because it is different than the carpet.

Tom is a great dad. He is so willing to make bottles and change diapers. Sometimes getting dressed can be a sort of wrestling match too. He says that they need to make those little snaps bigger. We finally got the bottle thing right, I think? We were making it twice as strong as it should have been. She took two bottles the first day and then would not touch them after tasting them. We figured that since she was eating solid foods and drinking plenty of water, we would worry about it later. Then about a day later, Tom said lets read the American formula to see how to prepare it, since we can’t read the instructions on the Chinese formula. Sure enough, not right! Eliana drinks her bottles way hotter than any American baby that I have ever fed. She HATES the bath. We just keep trying them. Eventually we know that she will be fine and love bathing in our big tub at home.

So to catch you up….We did not do much in Changsha on Thursday, except hang out at the room and bond. We went for a walk in the afternoon. We ended up at the Friendship store. The best way to describe this type of store is a big giant department store, with sections for each brand and each type of person (male, female or child.) For Thursday night’s dinner, Zhou took our group to a local hot-pot restaurant. A hot pot restaurant is kind of like the Melting Pot restaurant back home.

Friday morning was consumed by packing for our afternoon flight to Guangzhou. We had to keep the two checked suitcases to 44 pounds. Thank God for Gary and Debbie’s luggage scale. Then it was off to the airport for Eliana’s first plane ride. She did well, but it was ONLY an hour! She ate different finger foods, drank water, and babbled. I thought that maybe she had an ear infection since she would sometimes tug at her ears. However, we think that sheis teething and she does it more when she is tired than anything. I am pretty sure that she doesn’t have an ear infection because she did not scream on the flight because of them. She might have a cold, but nothing else major.

We are in Guangzhou. Let me repeat. We are in Guangzhou. It kind of reminds you of Key West as far as architecture, it is 75 degrees here, and the SUN IS OUT!!!!! We have not seen the sun since we left Ohio on the 20th of October. Our hotel is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! We are in the remodeled tower at the Victory Hotel. The bed is soft and there is a drinking water filter unit attached to a special “faucet” in the bathroom. It is like our unit in our kitchen. It is almost like being able to drink the tap water again.

This morning we had to go to get Eliana’s medical exam. It was crazy! There were a million people there(ok, not a million, but a lot!) We had to wait in 3 lines to have Eliana’s weight and height, her hearing and sight checked, and a physical. She did GREAT! We came back to the hotel; Eliana ate a banana and had formula with rice cereal for lunch. Eliana went down for her afternoon nap, (we are still trying to determine how long it should be so that she is not very restless at night.) Tom headed out to pick up lunch for us from Lucy’s. We were craving American food, so we had a cheeseburger, chicken wrap and fries. Tonight we have paperwork to do and maybe a trip to the park. We will TRY to update more frequently now :)
