I’m writing this excerpt the day following Emma’s baptism. What a glorious day it was! I have been on a high all day and was all day yesterday. It’s been a moment that I have been dreaming of since the day we decided to adopt. She was a beautiful princess. Dressed in her beautiful Chinese traditional dress with matching shoes from Renee and Eric Brown (the family Mike met on the airplane who led us to adopt special needs), hair up in pig tails, her cross bracelet from Nana and her cross necklace from Mamaw Becki. Everything she wore was a gift to her at some point during our journey. Pastor Jon and Pastor Lori did a wonderful job welcoming her into the church along with the rest of the congregation and Emma was “so comfortable” as a member of the church said. I am so looking forward to seeing what her life will bring and how she will use her life to please God.

Our already great day was heightened when Jack said “Mom! There’s the Brown Family!” Our friends had surprised us by showing up to the baptism. What a special family we have been introduced to by God.

Mike broke down and bought me a new camera that was on sale for Mother’s Day. Not a moment too soon either. The pictures are amazing. You obviously don’t need to be a professional picture taker to get great photos. Always helps to have great subjects!

It has been a wonderful week as Emma’s orthopedic appointment went better than expected. She only has to wear her brace during the night now. Her first nap without the braces was just the cutest thing as she wiggled her feet and rubbed them all over the sheets. She giggled and smiled for at least an hour. I stayed in her room for about 15 minutes just to watch her enjoy the feel of the sheets on her legs that she hadn’t felt since her first casting in early December. It was an amazing moment. I’ll never forget it.

Also, we had our 6 month post placement visit. Can you believe we had that anniversary already? Time is flying by. We have had company or have been out of town for at least the last 7 weeks in a row. We have really enjoyed our friends and family.

Emma is soooooooooooooooo close to walking now. She just needs one finger to hold onto. She could do it but she hasn’t built up the confidence yet. It will come and I imagine in a few days she’ll be doing it. I can’t wait!!!! My already happy girl will become just gleeful. She is talking now too. She only says a few words. Some clear and some not so clear. So far she can say: Mamamamamamama, Daaaaaaaaaaa (daddy), Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (Jack), uh-oh, please, ball, book, hi, juice, shoes.

Our family has become adjusted to our new life with 6 members. We have had to back out of many obligations. This just gives me more time to spend with Emma and the rest of the family so I’m grateful for the lack of responsibilities that I currently have.

From Daddy:
Wow what a day! There is not a day that goes by that this little girl doesn’t melt my heart. Today we had Emma baptized, and it was such a joy to know that she is now a part of our church family as well! Emma continues to touch the hearts of everyone she runs into. I just got a new camera for Jen for Mothers Day, and we are loving capturing Emma’s escapades on a daily basis. Just amazing to see her walking holding on to just a finger with that big grin of hers. Pictures don’t do her justice, but we hope you enjoy them anyway.

Thanks again to all of you for being a part of this amazing journey.

Mike
