Good Morning ….err Good Evening ….whichever the case may be from
Beijing, China!! (Still trying to get this all to sink in!)
After being in the O’Hara airport for a “3 hour layover” that
ended up being “10 hours+” and a 13hr+ flight from Chicago we
finally arrived in Beijing last night! Unfortunately our agency
coordinator as well as some of the other families were not so
lucky and their flight was cancelled. They spent the night in
Newark, NJ and are to arrive some time this morning (they should
be in the air now). We did go north toward Alaska and then back
down, not that I was watching but that is what the map said. The
flight was pretty uneventful – a good thing! Jim was a little
disappointed that there was no “warm towels” as we had in flight
with our trips to Kazakhstan BUT he was happy with the movie
selection so that made up for it. He also made a friend as the
guy sitting next to him was from….Pittsburgh. Yes, sport fans
they got to talk Pirates and Steelers throughout the flight, oh
good. (Though at one point I looked over to find Jim going
through pictures of Adam and EmmeClaire with the man….) The
Beijing Airport was probably one of the nicest I have ever been
in. There are two huge “murals” of the Great Wall of China but a
picture was pretty hard to get. It was pitch black by this point
so we were not able to see much on our 25 min trip from the
airport. I was shocked at how much English there is –
everywhere. So far we have seen more KFCs than I think I have
seen in any US city. We also saw a Buick dealership. We are
staying at Holiday Inn (and pretty darn nice I will say that
much…). Since the flights messed up our first day of touring, we
are not sure where we will be venturing to today (the 3rd).
Watching the Olympics and pretty much guessing what is going on
(thank you Mrs. H for your update of the USA results – we are
both in withdrawal). Lots of table tennis coverage here! Hope to
have some more exciting things to report tonight!
Adam: Mommy and Daddy miss you something awful. We hope you
are having fun with Beans. I am glad you got to read with Aunt
Jill even if it was Christmas books. Hope you had fun with water
day at school. We talk to you soon. Be good! XOXO
PS We have spent most of the morning using Face Time with people
at home….watch out if you have apple products we may be
“calling”.
PSS We hope to have more exciting pictures tonight! Watch for
Adam's Peter Pan he created for our trip! Hopefully his parents
will remember to take Peter on our adventures :) |
