The Blanket
Over 2
years ago when we started this process I was thinking
about something I could make for our daughter, something
meaningful and this blanket is what I came up with. I knew
I wanted to knit Emmi Su a blanket, and I just couldn't
decide how or what color, so I thought I would involve all
my family and friends. Here was the idea, if you wanted to
be involved, you went and got 2 skeins of yarn, same color
or two different ones, and then told me (Emmi Su) why you
chose those colors, and mailed them to me. When I got them
all, I put them all together in one very colorful,
meaningful blanket. I will also be putting all of our
“whys” together in print for her.
Our immediate family's color choices and why.........
Your brother Evan (age 6 at the time) chose a black yarn
because he said it reminded him of China, without Jesus,
and that it was the color of your hair.
Your sister Ellessa (age 9 at the time) chose a yellow
because of the glory of God and its golden like the sun,
she also chose an orange because of the warmth the sun
gives.
Your sister Eden (age 2 at the time) chose a yellow
because it is her favorite color like her yellow blankie,
and a teal blue green because she likes it.
Mommy chose a red because of the legend of the red thread
( An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet,
regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may
stretch or tangle, but will never break. -ancient Chinese
proverb) and you will always be with us and were supposed
to be with us. And red is associated with love. We love
you so very much! I also added a little lady bug on it,
with a red thread flying through the blanket! I am going
to use a green through the whole blanket for a sign of new
beginnings and your new life with us.
Daddy chose white because of new beginnings ,Daddy also
wanted to add his name to Mommy’s because that is what he
wanted to choose, red (for the same reasons) too!
I thought this would be a great way to pass the time!
Little did I know I would finish it (finished July
14,2006) years before we even knew about her. I am so
thankful I made it as big as I did, I was thinking baby at
the time, but it is a large blanket, and will work just
fine for her!
After I finished the blanket, I then took the remaining
yarn, and made everyone a scarf. I took their “picked “
yarns to make their scarf, and added a small red thread in
it somewhere. I mailed them to all the participants and
thanked them for being part of “our red thread” journey!
This was truly one of the most memorable parts of the
wait!
An invisible
red thread connects those destined to meet, regardless of
time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or
tangle but will never break. ~ Ancient Chinese Proverb
