We're Home
May 2008  |  June 2008

Hello…what a week it has been. Nicholas turned one on Memorial Day. As usual, we had a small get together and our friends were so generous on this special occasion. Nicholas got a lot of great new toys and books he is having a ton of fun with. He also got a great new “Daddies Little Caddie” onesie and a great sweater and hat for next year made with love by Mrs. Kozlowski. It was a fun day for everyone.

We have scheduled his baptism and asked our brothers to be his sponsors. For those of you who know them….yes…we know what we have done!

Our little guy had his surgery on Monday, June 2 and everything went very well. I must say that it was heartbreaking to see him wake up so confused, in pain, and scared. I have never felt so helpless in my life. There was nothing I could do beside cuddle him and say “more morphine please!”. Thank goodness for the wonderful Children’s Hospital staff who was so good at comforting Nicholas and his sobbing mommy.

Dan and I spent the night with him so we could be there to comfort him at every moment. We can’t imagine leaving him at the hospital all alone to wake to strangers throughout the night. He did well and we were able to leave the next morning. If anyone out there is considering a waiting child and lives in the state of Wisconsin, I highly recommend Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. The staff is so comforting to both child and family and the care was wonderful.

Nick’s stitches were removed on Friday, June 6 and he looks wonderful. I was so concerned that I would miss my little guy’s beautiful face but he looks so wonderful now those fears have gone away. He is eating well and even charmed the waitresses at a restaurant so much they gave him his first bowl of ice cream last night…yummy!

So what else is Nicholas doing?
• Sitting
• Rolling from tummy to back and back to tummy.
• Clapping at everything
• Chattering away
• Working well with his physical therapist for his delayed gross motor skills
• Having fun with his buddies Ella and Owen
• Flirting with all the pretty ladies
• Very attached to mommy and daddy
• Imitating everything
• Banging on all of his toys …future drummer we assume!

Apparently, our guestbook closes on June 12th. If anyone has any questions or would like to contact us for any reason (LYG child, thinking of special needs, lives near us) please contact us at den.Donaldson@yahoo.com

We will update again in a few months! Until then…
