MARCH 2009
VALENTINE'S DAY SPAGHETTI DINNER
FUNDRAISER
Love was in the air.....along with the delicious smell of
spaghetti and meatballs!
Well, when we first started planning to have another fundraiser
I thought February would be the perfect month. After all,
February is the month of love and romance and I could stick with
the red, white, and black theme of the nursery and our first
adoption fundraiser. When I called the Church Office I was told
that the only Saturday available was February, 14th-Valentine’s
Day! I had my doubts at first but friends reassured me that it
could be successful and thankfully it was. Karl and I could not
have asked for more of anything....we had more than enough help,
more than enough food, and so many friends to share the day
with-we are truly blessed!
We are very thankful to everyone who supported our fundraising
efforts, those who came to dine with us, those who made
donations, and those who have been praying and continue to pray
for us-thank you! We would especially like to thank our friends
who went over-and-above such as: our neighbors and friends
Teesha and John Cole who spent the entire day helping us. From
decorating and helping to set-up, to cooking and serving-they
did it all. Our neighbors and friends, the Gomez family. Alfonso
Gomez donated two beautiful paintings of Jesus that were done by
an artist in Mexico. Dahlia Gomez helped by setting up and
serving guests. Violetta Gomez (AKA “Purple”) also helped to
set-up and serve, but her primary job was taking photographs and
she did a wonderful job! The Ansbro family who after running
back and forth between soccer games all day still came and
helped by seating and waiting on guests, cleaning off and
setting and resetting tables, selling raffle tickets, and making
sure that the “dining room” ran smoothly. The Norris family who
came early and helped decorate and provided the much needed
tablecloths and oven mitts! To Karen for making dessert and
staying to help decorate. To the Knights, Terry S. and Nick C.,
for helping to cook, serve, wash pots, and clean the kitchen. To
the Catholic Daughters who made and brought dessert, everything
was delicious! To Peggy Fisher for the delicious and beautiful
cupcakes. To the Confirmation Class volunteers for waiting on
guests, you all did a wonderful job. Thank you, thank you, thank
you! We couldn’t have done it without any of you!
We would also like to thank special friends who traveled long
distances, or brought their families with them, such as: Casey
and Lori who came all the way from South Carolina-and were our
first guests! To Jodi and Travis thank you for spending your
Valentine’s day with us and for the wonderful gift. To Misty and
Derrick, thank you for bringing your parents and spending your
Valentine’s day with us. To the Carlson family who have inspired
and helped us on this journey-it was great to see the girls,
they have gotten so big! To the Nuss family for driving from
Mooresville and for bringing back take-out to those who couldn’t
make it, and to Jodi Johnson for driving all the way from
Albemarle after working all day and giving us an awesome gift
besides! And to everyone who made donations towards our
adoption. Thank you. We love you all!
Karl and I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful day.
Although it rained in the morning, the remainder of the day was
beautiful. What better way to spend Valentine’s Day than with
the people who love you, helping you to get closer to the little
girl on the other side of the world who is holding our hearts.
Hana is a very lucky little girl, she is already loved by so
many, thank you for helping us get to her.
Pictures from the dinner can be seen on my Myspace page. They
are beautiful images of loving couples and families.
