“You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.” – Desmond Tutu

February 2008

Jenna Kate is walking!!! We are so excited to see how much she has grown and developed in the few months that we have had her! She took her first true steps on the 22nd of January and she hasn’t stopped since! People joke that a walking baby causes more angst, but we love it! She is truly one of the sweetest and most joyful babies I have ever been around. She has figured out how to climb our stairs…and climbs them quite well. Navigating her way down the stairs will take some more time though! She finally bonded with one of her many stuffed animals – it is just the cutest thing to see her eyes light up and watch her give “white dog” a big kiss on the nose. To say the least, “white dog” isn’t always very white.

Jenna Kate still isn’t saying much…”uh-oh” is new and just adorable. We are working on Mama and Papa, which she mouths, but sometimes no sound comes out. That actually makes both she and I giggle. She can say “up” and she can say our dog’s name “Dirk”. She is also putting together some of her signs…she says “more please” in addition to plain ol’ “thank you” and “all done” – it is all just so sweet. Although she isn’t saying much, she really understands a ton of what we say. She is able to follow directions quite well. Again, we are pretty impressed since she has now only heard the English language for 3 months.

We have been lucky to have a few weeks of beautiful late January / February weather so we have taken girls to the park several times and just last week made our first trip to the zoo. Jenna Kate loved the animals! She also got a big hoot out of the merry-go-round and the zoo train. Nana bought the girls zoo passes for the entire year so this was just the first of many fun zoo days to come!

We celebrated Chinese New Year with Peytie (from our travel group) and her parents as well as Claire and Jenna Kate’s grandparents at a local Sushi Restaurant…all of the girls were dressed in their Chinese outfits….super cute. Of course they were a big hit with all of the patrons eating that night.

Jenna Kate continues to grow at an impressive rate! Although she can still wear 6-9 month old clothes (she is 15 months old!), she is now able to wear 12 month old outfits without looking like she is wearing borrowed clothes! She has gained several pounds since we brought her home and I think she has grown in height too. They say that babies grow in their sleep…and if that is true, she will continue to catch up quickly as she is a GREAT sleeper! JR and I count our blessings daily as we watch both of our girls grow!
