Emma Ya
Qin Marianne will have a sister! Julia Fu Zi Josephine
Kane was formally matched with us on August 25th, 2009
(the day after her birthday). We could not have been more
thrilled! We have always wanted two children. Julia was
referred to us by our social worker at the Children’s Home
Society and Family Services (CHSFS) – headquartered at St.
Paul, Minnesota. Julia fits right in our family – having a
history similar to Emma’s. Emma was 16 months old when she
was found outside of the orphanage gate in Chengguan Town
in the Fujian Province. Julia was found at the age of 18
months at the waiting room of a bus station, wearing a hat
with yellow and gray stripes and a baby bib with flowers.
She was brought in to the Township Social Welfare
Institute of QiDong County in the Hunan Province for
medical testing and was found to be healthy and deaf. As
we read Julia’s referral information, fate stepped in as
we could not believe how much her story mirrored that of
Emma’s. We are convinced that destiny brought these 2
girls together to be forever sisters. We are partnering
with the same agencies – Jewish Family Services (for home
study purposes) and CHSFS (child placement purposes). We
are even working with the same social workers that we
previously worked with for Emma’s adoption.
What is
Julia like?
From the growth report given to us by our social
worker at time of referral – this is an excerpt of what we
read: |

 |
“She is reported to be very smart and obedient. Julia
is with a foster family who report to like her very much.
She communicates well, despite being deaf. She can guess
the general meaning of commands according to actions and
facial expressions and then accomplish the task
accordingly. She has quick responses and a good sense of
directions. For example, if she goes to places such as a
supermarket only once, she will be able to remember its
exact location, and she even remember the exact goods
displayed in a certain counter. When she goes there for
the second time, she will pull your hand and walk in front
you just like a little guide
She is active and extrovert. She always has a ready smile
and likes to make friends with other children. She gets
along well with the children in the same courtyard. She
has a strong ability to imitate. Usually she can learn to
make a movement after looking at it only once. She often
imitates adults by clasping her hands behind her back and
walking around in the courtyard and by dancing the Yangge.
She likes watching TV, especially the animated cartoons.
She is very attentive when watching the animated
cartoons.”

KISSES IN
THE WIND
(The Waiting Child's Lullaby)
I hold you in my heart and touch you in my dreams.
You are here each day with me, at least that's how it seems.
I know you wonder where we are... what's taking us so long.
But remember child, I love you so and God will keep you strong.
Now go outside and feel the breeze and let it touch your skin...
Because tonight, just as always, I blow you kisses in the wind.
May God hold you in His hand until I can be with you.
I promise you, my darling, I'm doing all that I can do.
Very soon, you'll have a family for real, not just pretend.
But for tonight, just as always, I blow you kisses in the wind.
May God wrap you in His arms and hold you very tight.
And let the angels bring the kisses that I send to you each
night.
