Hello Everyone!
We can't believe we have been home for a month already! In
another way, it seems like Kayla has been part of our family
forever. She is such a joy! We can't believe how smart she is! She can
already say about 9 words in English (turtle, Tigger, Mommy,
Daddy, night-night, hat (a girl after your own heart Melanie!), please,
more, and my favorite- hello which sounds like he-woah). We talk to
her like
she understands everything we say. We often forget that
she probably doesn't have a clue what we are saying. Even so, she is
such a little sponge and mimics everything we do. I guess we need
to be on our best behavior!
She loves being around all the kids at
Water's Edge Church and Bible Study. She also loves Gymboree
class! The assessment said she loves music and they were
right on! The Gymboree songs and dances are her favorite parts of the
class.
Kayla is able to go up and down the stairs which made it
necessary
to buy baby gates. She is always up for a ride in her
stroller.
We can't imagine all the "firsts" she has experienced in
the past
month- driving the grocery cart car in Krogers to going to
Drew's baseball games to talking into the microphone at church
and praise
team practice. When she insisted on "singing" into the mic,
everyone said she is definitely a Docherty.
Abby and Drew are the best siblings in the world. They
help out and love her so much. Drew's favorite things to do with Kayla
are to chase her while she giggles and have her roll the
basketball to him. Abby's favorite things to do are to snuggle and
choose an outfit in which to dress her. Needless to say, the little
girl has plenty of cute clothes! She also enjoys ripping the bow
out of her hair when she realizes it is there.
Today we took Kayla to Children's Hospital to see an
International Adoption Specialist. She did really well. We will find out
about her blood work results in a couple of weeks. We did find
out that she has gained weight since being home. We didn't doubt
the weight gain since she loves to eat everything except broccoli.
Ironically her favorite food is mandarin oranges! She did only gain 1
1/2 pounds. She is a whopping 23 lbs. Kayla has done so well sleeping also! She takes a three
hour nap and sleeps through the night for about 11 hours. She makes
us laugh how she will go to sleep so easily.
Speaking of bedtime-
while I am typing this, she is taking post-it notes apart and
spreading them around the room one page at a time. It's bedtime!
Thank you so much again for following our journey!! This
entire experience has been such a blessing! We are thankful that
God put adoption on our hearts three years ago and Kayla in our
hearts forever!
Love- The Docherty Five
