Our Story  Questions & Answers

Mike and I have been married 18 years and we have four children. We met at a church softball game when I was a college student and Mike was just out of dental school. We are blessed with a strong marriage, and we thank the Lord for His Word which has grown to be our source of guidance in every area of our life. When we had our first born, Gracie, in 1992, we knew I would be home to care for our child and any other children that we would have. I had taught elementary school for 2 short years, and then began my wonderfully blessed days of motherhood. Two years later, Abigail was born and we were blessed once again. We knew we wanted more children, but the years went by and we stayed busy and content with the two daughters God had given us. We knew that God had a plan for our family and we just wanted to trust him. When Gracie was nine and Abigail was seven, we found out that we were expecting another child. We also began homeschooling that year -- so it was a big year for us! Life was sweet and we were so extremely grateful. Our desire for more children continued to grow and two years after Evie was born, Jack Henry joined our family. He and Evie have been so much fun, and we are so blessed to have older children and now babies again! I can't think of anything that I would rather be doing than being a wife and mother. God has been so good to us!

So, how does adoption fit into all this? And why, after having four children, would we still want more? We believe that children are a blessing, first of all. Also, we believe that God has a heart for the fatherless. God mentions in scripture over and over again His care for the orphan. He doesn't stop there, He also wants believers to care for them as well. I can honestly say that I (Kim) have wanted to adopt for as long as I can remember. It has been a part of me for years! I never knew how it would happen, but I had prayed over the years that God would work it out if it was His will. Mike and I have discussed it often in the past few years, but he never felt that it was the right time yet. He was right -- His godly wisdom helped guide our family to where we are today. I am very thankful to Mike for being such a wonderful spiritual leader for me and our children!
The Doll
I remember as a child, God planting the seed of adopting from China in my heart. I was seven or eight, I think, and I picked out a doll from the Sears Wish Book Catalog that I wanted for Christmas. Out of all the dolls in the catalog this one was the most beautiful and intriguing to me. She had almond shaped eyes and black hair. I received the Chinese baby doll that year for Christmas, and I played with her all the time. I remember that being my favorite childhood toy and as a young girl, I wanted a real baby like that one day. I asked my mom recently about that doll when I was at her house one day and surprisingly, she still had it! She was smelly, dirty, and her hair was all messed up, but I was happy to have her. So, now I have the doll as a reminder of the dream that began as a young girl. My plans are to get the doll restored to give to Lydia when we go to China.

"O Lord, Thou art my God; I will exalt Thee, I will give thanks to thy name.
For Thou hast worked wonders, Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness."
