Today we
went to the White Swan Hotel for the famous Red Couch
photo. We thought Lynden would cry as soon as we set her
on the couch, but we were very excited when she sat there
like the perfect little angel she is. We have become very
close friends with another couple, Mark and Jenny and
their little girl Kennedy. Lynden and Kennedy were the
only children that didn’t cry for the couch photo. Last
night it occurred to me that both girls’ names are of
previous U.S. presidents, we all received our referral on
the same day and they both have the same gotcha day. Jenny
and I are very excited that we only live a few hours away
from each other and we are already planning on visiting
each other.
After the red couch pictures, we all went to church. Brad
and I really loved it and it was very moving to be
surrounded by fellow believers, both Chinese and other
foreigners. The service was in both Mandarin and English.
It was an awesome experience to hear worship songs in
Mandarin. We could really feel the Holy Spirit moving
among the congregation. It brought tears to my eyes to be
able to worship my King as I rocked our new little miracle
asleep.
We had another tasty lunch at a restaurant down the street
from the church. We really love the variety of foods but I
think we will be more than ready for good old American
food by Thursday. The first thing Brad said he wanted to
eat was Taco Bell. I really want a big juicy steak and
Megan really wants to be able to drink water from the
faucet. So far Megan and I haven’t made any mistakes when
it is comes to the water. Brad on the other had has gone
through 3 toothbrushes because he keeps sticking them
under the faucet. We have been really blessed so far that
everyone has remained healthy in every way.
We returned to the hotel after lunch for little nap. While
some of the families went to the park, Jenny, Megan and I
decided to go shopping. Brad stayed in our hotel with
Lynden. As you can see by the photos, he bribed her with
Star Bucks. She loved it! When I first left the room, she
screamed and threw a fit. I could here her yelling “Mama”
all the way down the hall. My heart broke hearing her yell
but I prayed that the time she spent with Brad would be a
great bonding experience. My prayer was answered because
she calmed down after about a 30-minute fit and then she
and Brad played; he carried her around without her crying
(for the first time) and she let him take her for a walk
around the hotel while we were shopping for three hours.
When I came back to the room, she and Brad greeted me at
the door and she did not dive for me out of Brad’s arms.
She seemed content in her daddy’s arms. Although I did get
lots of kisses after Brad put her down and she came to me.
The evening ended with crying and whining for about an
hour before she dosed off for the night. She still really
wants me to walk with her but that’s not going to happen,
she is just going to have to be content with me holding
her.
