This morning
Megan and I went to the Pearl Market with our guide and
some of our group. It was a lot of fun and we did a lot of
shopping. Brad stayed with Lynden at the hotel. She cried
for the first five minutes but quickly settled down. They
went to Star Bucks and toured the hotel. Brad discovered
that she loved riding not only in the elevator but on the
escalator, so up and down they went enjoying their time
together.
After the Pearl Market, we hung out in our hotel room and
had McDonald’s for lunch. In the afternoon we went to the
zoo. It is quite different than the zoos in the states.
First of all, the animal’s cages were only cement
compounds, which are not very stimulating for the animals.
Second, we saw stray cats all through the zoo (even in
with the elephants and monkeys). We joked that the
elephants probably liked the cats because they chased away
the mice. Then, we saw a giant rat steal some food from a
monkey’s cage and eat it in a plant area next to our
sidewalk. So, I guess the cats are not doing their job. By
far, the most shocking and funny thing we saw there was
the 9 cages with Pomeranian dogs in them. We couldn’t
believe they had dogs in their zoo. Alison, our guide was
shocked that we didn’t have dogs in our zoos. I guess they
are wild animals in China .
One of the families in our group has a little girl named
Sarah that has become quite attached to Megan. It has been
really cute to see them together. Before we traveled here,
Sarah’s mom warned us that she would be attached to Megan
and I assured her that Megan loves little kids and would
be fine with an extra attachment. I was right. They seemed
to really enjoy each other.
This evening, Lynden loved sitting on her daddy’s lap and
looking at her own website. She was very fascinated with
looking at the online pictures of herself. She points to
her picture and then to herself and back to the picture
again, it is so cute!
