We have discovered that we failed to write much about Nanning
because of the excitement of getting Macy. Nanning is the
provincial capital of the province of Guangxi. It is in
southwest China located very near Vietnam. In fact, it really
grew in the 1960’s when arms were shipped from here to Vietnam.
Nanning has been growing since and the roads are beautiful with
many of the roads surrounded by greenery and flowers. Nanning
seems to have less pollution than the other cities we have seen
and it is much warmer and more tropical feeling. People tend to
drive motor-bikes rather than cars probably because the weather
is nice and gas is less expensive.
Today we woke up and went to breakfast and then Kathleen
attended a meeting to fill out paperwork for the American
consulate appointment. Jeff stayed back with Macy and had
somewhat of a rough time. Macy has decided that she cannot be
put down and that she will cry if either one of us leaves the
room. We know this is a normal reaction to the adjustment of the
adoption. Sometimes, however, it is still tiring (and
surprisingly our arms are sore even though she is only 15
pounds). She eats like a bird and only occasionally will take a
whole bottle. She is definitely not dehydrated though so we are
trying to follow her lead. She is getting really good at
crawling (usually with tears in her eyes trying to get to one of
us).
After our meeting, we went to a little birthday celebration for
one of the babies in the group (Sophie turned one). It was nice
to see her enjoy her birthday cake (a little different than
American cake with fruit on the top and cookie on the bottom).
After that we went to the Peoples’ Park which is right near our
hotel. It is beautiful. It costs money for everyone except
senior citizens to go into China’s parks so there are a lot of
older Chinese individuals playing cards, singing, playing
instruments or exercising. We met a set of grandparents with
their grandbaby and we took a picture of the grandmother and the
baby. After that, we have come back to the hotel to pack and get
ready for Guilin tomorrow. We are excited to go there (the
Chinese consider it the most beautiful part of their country)
but we wish we were heading to Houston instead.
Hopefully you all are doing well and preparing for Christmas. We
are missing seeing the decorations.
We love you all,
Kathleen and Jeff
A Special Note to
Kayleigh and Brayden
It is getting much closer to us getting home. We cannot
wait to see you. Macy will love you and as always we are
lovin’ you.
