Trip to China
All Days  |
Previous Day  Next Day

Friday, December 7, 2007

Today was a beautiful day. Guilin is very picturesque and Macy is feeling better. We woke up and ate breakfast and then went on a tour of the city. We saw the Li River (which we will cruise tomorrow). It is very low because there has been no rain. Then we went to Elephant Trunk Rock which is a mountain which looks like an elephant. There we had pictures taken with some of the women in ceremonial dress and Jeff took a picture to look like a farmer in a boat. We then went to another park which had numerous beautiful sites including a waterfall, more mountains, and some pandas. The pandas were really mellow when we got there and Jeff enjoyed taking some pictures of them.

After the park, we went to lunch at a local restaurant. The food was really good and we got some watercolors done by a local artist. Hopefully, they will fit somewhere in our house. (They will be really fun to carry home).

After that Kathleen and Macy took a nap together and Jeff went for a walk. We still are missing home but the weather was so nice it helped to raise our spirits. Also Macy is bonding really well with us and her fever seems to be gone so we are enjoying the time we get to spend with her. She loves being in the hip carrier (most of the time) and sleeps readily there. She seems to be starting to trust that we will respond to her when she cries so she is willing to play independently more.

Tomorrow, our group includes someone who is the 500,000th traveler on this cruise for this year so they have asked someone in the group to speak. Our guide XiXi (who is absolutely wonderful) asked Jeff to do it. It should be interesting. The news channels will be there and she will translate his words. Hopefully he will make America proud. We laughed because we knew how proud his dad would have been to know he was doing it. (We think he may have even helped orchestrate it).

In any event, Kathleen and Macy just got back from a walk. Kathleen was scolded by so many Chinese women of varying ages for not keeping Macy warm enough despite multiple layers, sweaters, hats and blankets. They just really like the babies warm. We are trying to get Macy to bed so we will sign off. We love you all.

One week and we are home. We love you so much and miss you. We hope you have a great weekend and enjoy some free time. We’ll talk to you soon.

Love,
