Waiting for Referral

2007
It is hard to believe that we are finally sitting down to
write this and it is possible that we will have a referral
for a new family member in just a few short weeks. When we
started this process, we thought we would have a baby
within one year and that we would be so prepared. Now,
neither of these statements is true. In fact, we have been
waiting for about two years to hear of our daughter from
China. It seems likely that we may receive a referral for
our little girl in a few weeks. We cannot wait … however,
because of the multiple delays we have experienced we have
been lackadaisical about getting ready and our next month
or two may be spent in some degree of panic as we try to
ready ourselves. It will all be worth it, and we cannot
wait to begin the next chapter of our family’s story.
To update those of you who have not heard our story of our
process up until now … we will recap. We started this
process in early 2005. We had thought about the idea of
adoption for a long time and received an invitation in the
mail for an informational meeting with our adoption agency
(Harrahs Adoption International Mission). Jeff and I
attended together and became really excited. We knew our
capacity to love children was limitless and felt compelled
to add to our family in this way. We decided to pursue
adoption and began what is fondly called the “paperchase.”
Anyone who knows Kathleen probably knows how energetically
(or possibly obsessively) she can follow paperwork. The
process was frustrating. In fact, we discovered a mistake
on Jeff’s birth certificate and had to have it changed. We
got lucky and found wonderful people to help us and after
all the paperwork, homestudies by social workers, et
cetera our file went to China on 11/18/05. The People’s
Republic of China gave us a “Log In Date” (LID) of
11/30/05.
We had hoped that we would have had a baby by late 2006
but plans change and now in September of 2007 referrals
have been made up until 11-25-05. We know we are close and
we know God has a wonderful plan for our family. Please
join us on our journey. We know it will be magical. |
