We're Home
December 2008  |  January/February 2008  March-June 2008

January/February 2008

Well, we have been chastised by many people for our slow posting. It is hard to believe that Macy has already been home for almost three months. It really has been a wonderful three months and we have seen her go from a quiet, somewhat shy infant to a blossoming, joyful toddler.

After we arrived home from China, we were of course jet-lagged. Macy and Mommy spent many hours up between 1:00 am and 4:00 am before we got settled into the routine again. They spent time playing with toys, going through mail (she is very good at shredding), and getting to know the dogs. Marlee (the large lab puppy) took some adjusting to for Macy. Marlee does not know how big she is and tends to knock over unsuspecting children.

Three days after our arrival in the US, Macy got to make her debut to family and friends at Jeff’s belated 40th birthday. We had it at a suite at the Rockets game. She did really well and would let others hold her as long as Mom was in sight. Jeff enjoyed celebrating his birthday and it will surely be one he remembers forever.

After that, the family celebrated Christmas. We spent Christmas Eve with Jeff’s family and then had a quiet day at home the next day. It was neat to be a family of five and watch the children play with their toys.

On December 28, Jeff and Kathleen’s anniversary (which they both forgot until the next day), we all flew to Utah with Jeff’s mom. We met up with his brother and sister and their families. Kayleigh, Brayden, and Jeff got to ski and Macy and Mom bonded at the condo. The kids were excited to see snow and play with their cousins but the trip was probably overly- ambitious after being away from home for so long. We were glad to get home and get settled back in.

Most of January and February was spent just getting the house re-organized and enjoying the kids. Macy loves her big sister and big brother and they return her emotions. She now sleeps through the night in her crib and most often one of the kids is the first to hear here and get her out of bed. She smiles readily now and is quite close to walking (just won’t quite let go yet). She screams for “Da Da” all the time and we think she says Kayleigh and Brayden.

The exciting news is Macy turned one on February 20th. Unfortunately Daddy was sick so we waited until the weekend and let her experience her 1st birthday cake. She was not shy and everyone in the restaurant was enthralled with her. After all her messiness, everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to her. It was definitely that.

We are going to try to update more frequently now (once a month… that’s the goal). We leave you with Kayleigh’s comment … “Mommy, the wait was long but now I know it was worth it.” It definitely was.

Love,
Kathleen and Jeff

We think this speaks for itself.

She likes cake.
