MAROSSIE DAY!!!
This was the most exciting day of our married life to date. We
went to breakfast this morning and then went to work sorting and
arranging for things to come. The anticipation mounting, we
prepared ourselves for a short ride to the civil affairs office
nearby and waited downstairs for Bob to bring us there.
After a ride in the inner city of Guangzhou we arrived nervous
and excited. We rode the elevator up to our floor and went to a
very modern room where we completed paperwork, while watching
other families unite for the first time. Bob warned us that
Marossie had not arrived yet, so all we could do is wait. Our
travel companions saw there baby, Rachel, arrive first. They
recognized her and Marossie soon followed through the curtains.
In less than a minute we had arrived at parenthood and our
dreams of two plus years had been realized. With Marossie in our
arms we melted down. We went back to the couches and sat with
her. After a few minutes she began to cry heavily with grief. I
now had to earn my daddy stripes by trying to comfort my
grieving child. This turned out to be next to impossible. It was
so hard not being able to “fix it” for her; all I could do was
hold her and cry too.
While I was trying out my new daddy skills; Amy was asking the
orphanage staff questions about Marossie's eating schedule and
current health. Amy and I were very concerned when we
immediately noticed some nasal discharge (lets just say it was
colorful), Our awesome guide Bob got on the phone with the
Canadian American medical care facility in the Garden Hotel and
reserved an appointment for us to see a doctor right away. We
are so grateful that we were able to be seen so fast. We dropped
off The Duncans at our hotel and off we went.
We were greeted by an awesome team of medical professionals. The
doctor was wonderful. He did a full exam on an already
traumatized baby. Marossie was so brave and was an excellent
patient, we could not be more proud of her. She got a diaper
change first thing. Next came the weight and measure. Then there
was the exam by the doctor. He was fine with everything and
while looking through the records was about to let us go when he
realized Marossie was 16 months old. He then changed his tone.
He wanted to get a blood sample and establish her “baseline”.
Long story short Marossie has an upper respiratory infection and
tonsillitis; the doctor ordered her an antibiotic, decongestant
and vitamin C supplement for the malnutrition. The doctor was
very serious when he made us promise to feed her. No problem! We
took a taxi back to the hotel, relaxed in the room for a brief
time and went to Lucy's again for dinner. We were happy that
Marossie ate chicken congee and a little apple juice. She has
had some antibiotic and decongestant with her nightly feeding
and she is relaxing in paradise.
Our daughter is beautiful and lovely. We cant wait until
tomorrow, to show her off!
We Love Y'all,
James and Amy
