We would loved to have slept in this morning, but we were wide
awake at 6:00am, as our body clocks had no idea what time it
actually was.
There are a total of twelve families in our travel group from
FTIA. We’ve been meeting families all along, but we finally got
to meet everyone as a group this morning before we headed out
for our day of touring Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.
Right now the Chinese are observing their Labor Days, so all of
the workers, except those in the service industry, and students
have three days off. The crowds were huge. Catherine, our FTIA
coordinator who did double-duty as tour guide did a very nice
job of explaining the different sights around TiananmenSquare,
including the tomb of Mao Tse Tung and the Monument to Heros. We
then proceeded into the Forbidden City and toured that as well.
Our group definitely stood out, and we drew lots of looks. The
Chinese people would often ask to have their pictures taken with
the children in our group. Of course, Mark didn’t mind at all .
. . loving being treated like a “rock star.”
Later this afternoon, we went to an acrobatic show. The show was
spectacular, and we learned that most of the performers in the
group are under 18 years old!
We received our final updated information about Mary Grace
today. It included answers to a questionnaire, so we know a
little more about her. Anyway, we found out that she is in
foster care! This is wonderful news because she is receiving
one-on-one care from a foster mom and dad.
