Our last day in Nanchang and we went to the Wanshou Taoist
Temple. “Wan” means one thousand and “shou” means longevity in
Mandarin. This temple, built in 2004, is a replica of the
original. As we walked through the ornate temple, we saw Taoist
monks, and enjoyed the beautiful and calming sounds as they
played their wooden flute-like instruments.
Jiangxi Province is well known for its porcelain, so after
visiting the temple, we went to a porcelain store here in
Nanchang. We purchased a beautiful porcelain tea set, which we
will give to Mary Grace when she gets married. We would have
loved to buy more, but getting it back to Indiana in one piece
would be too hard.
A few cases of HFM disease have been diagnosed here in Jiangxi
Province, so Catherine arranged for a pediatrician to come to
the hotel to look at the babies in our group, just for
reassurance. These poor babies all have something going on . . .
colds, cough, congestion, rashes, etc. Like many of the babies,
we’ve had to start Mary Grace on her antibiotic as the doctor
believes she has bronchitis.
While we’ve enjoyed the time spent here in Nanchang, seeing the
sights and learning about Mary Grace’s birth province. It’s been
a great learning experience for us all. Tomorrow, we’ll leave
for Guangzhou.
Blessings from China,
