This morning Delilah and Mary Grace walked to the opposite side
of the island with the rest of our group to have Mary Grace’s
visa picture taken and then receive her physical examination,
which is a requirement to bring her into the United States.
The physical exam consisted of stops at three separate stations.
She first saw a doctor who listened to her heart and then very
briefly checked her over. She then saw an ENT, who checked her
ears and throat. At the last station, she was weighed and
measured. Mary Grace weighs in at a whopping 16.8 pounds! Of all
the Jiangxi babies, Mary Grace is one of the oldest, but she is
by far the tiniest. Our little peanut!
While Delilah was taking care of official business, Brad stayed
back with a very sick boy. With the help of Catherine and Helen,
our Guangzhou guide, Brad was able to take Mark to the Eur Am
Medical Center. They did a quick finger prick blood test, found
he’s fighting an infection and put him on a different antibiotic
than the one prescribed by the hotel doctor. Brad was very
satisfied with the care received at this clinic, especially
after last night’s fiasco in the hotel clinic.
This afternoon we had some time to explore the island. The
island is very small . . . you can get anywhere you need to go
by foot. It has a strong western influence, as it was once a
British colony. In the center of the island is a park area where
locals come to do Tai Chi, play badminton and hackysack, as well
as exercise and play on the equipment for both adults and
children. It’s really neat to see the Chinese people out like
this, enjoying such simple pleasures.
Thanks once again to everyone for your uplifting messages left
in our guestbook . . . reading them is a highlight of our day.
We know you’re following our journey with the joy and excitement
that we’re feeling, and we apologize for our continued late
posts.
Blessings from China,
Brad, Delilah, Mark and Mary Grace |
