About Georgia

Georgia’s Chinese name is Xi Yuan (pronounced “She Yoo-Ehn”), and you can see from her photo that she was aptly named: Xi Yuan translates as “Full of Happiness!” The caretakers at the Chenzhou Child Welfare Institute in Hunan Province gave her that beautiful name in the hope that she “would have a happy and healthy life.” She will be called Georgia in honor of my beloved grandmother, Gladys, and her middle name will be Xi Yuan so that her Chinese heritage will always be part of our lives.

Georgia’s health appears to be very good – as of July 30, she was close to 15 pounds, which is on target for an infant of almost 5 months. Her development report indicates that she has had a busy infancy raising her head while lying on her stomach, looking at colorful objects, laughing, reaching for hanging toys, and making baby talk – all developmental milestones appropriate for a healthy little girl! The report also says that she “likes people to hold her close,” enjoys massages (like mother, like daughter!), and plays quietly (not so much like Mom!). My favorite description of her is that she “has a ready smile” - as have I since the moment I learned that she is my daughter.
