Oscar and I are still struggling with a cold, but he sure seems
to have a lot more energy than I do! He has become much more
active these last couple of days. Chris and I are simply amazed
at how far Oscar has come in the past week and a half. We know
we still have a long road ahead of us, but we are so impressed
at how Oscar seems to be adjusting. He very rarely is doing his
anxious look where he rubs the right side of his face and neck.
He doesn’t cry when we go to the bathroom. Instead he yells,
“MA!” super loud and then giggles! We are so thankful that Oscar
seems to be more comfortable with us by allowing his true
personality to shine through. He mimics our actions, tries to
speak words, opens and climbs anything and everything, and is
basically in full-on toddler mode. We love it, but we’re tired!
It’s going to take some getting used to, but I think we’re doing
a pretty good job for first timers.
We went to the electronics market today. Chris found some good
deals on Wii games and a Stephen Chow DVD box set. I bought
another lens for my camera. The market was hot and very crowded
so unfortunately it wasn’t the most enjoyable experience,
especially with this miserable cold. Oscar was a champ through
it all and enjoyed riding around in the stroller.
During the afternoon, we went to the Consulate for the oath
taking ceremony. The drive to the Consulate took longer than the
ceremony itself. All the adoptive families piled into a few
large busses and rode to the Consulate. After going through
security checkpoints, we all entered a large room, took the
oath, and received Oscar’s visa. Once he enters the United
States and goes through customs, he will be an American citizen.
One last hurdle that we can’t wait to complete.
The four other families in our travel group leave tomorrow. We
will have one more day to do last minute shopping and packing.
Our guide, Simon, is going to take us to the Six Banyan Trees
Buddhist Temple. We have been looking forward to this visit
since arriving in Guangzhou. We would like to have the monks
bless Oscar. We feel very honored to have this opportunity.
