Trip to China
All Days  |  Previous Day  |  Next Day

Monday, January 21, 2008

Our first full day with Amazing Grace was wonderful. We had an early start since we had to get to three appointments today. We finalized all of our adoption paperwork, she is officially ours!! We also got Grace’s picture taken for her Chinese passport. We took a big trip to a local department store which was quite an experience. We are enjoying a few days of feeling like movie stars as the locals are very excited to see Westerners, and even more excited to see that we are giving a Chinese baby such a bright future. We have been told several times that Grace is very beautiful (we think so too!!).

This afternoon, we had the opportunity to meet with the orphanage director and a few staff members, although not the nannies. We were so pleased to learn so many nice things about the orphanage and it’s obvious that Grace and all of the other babies in our group were well cared for. They all have a bit of a runny nose, but are very healthy otherwise. We’ll blame the weather for that since it’s been about 37 and raining since we got to Nanchang. We feel like we are bonding well with Grace- she gives both of us very good eye contact and she lets us cuddle her and give her lots of kisses. We are overwhelmed with the joy and love Grace has already brought into our lives. We know this baby was meant to be ours and that we are now a family of three. She fits her name very well as she is shy and timid and beautiful, and she is our Amazing Grace.
