What a long day. We woke to another cold and dark day in
Nanchang, and the ground was covered in ice. We had a 10am
meeting time to head to the airport for our flight to
Guangzhou, until we discovered that the airport was
closed. We spent the morning in the play area and waited
for word on our flight. We finally hopped on the bus at
2pm for a very interesting ride to the airport. Since
Nanchang is in the southern part of China, this type of
weather is unusual. We crossed several small bridges that
had frozen over. There were police and government
officials in uniforms with small metal shovels trying to
break up the ice on the bridge. No equipment, no salt,
just guys with shovels. It took us about 2 hours to make
the 40 minute trip to the airport. Our guides once again
worked their magic and got all 20 of us, plus babies on an
earlier flight and we finally got out of Nanchang.
It’s just after 10pm here and we are just getting settled
in the White Swan Hotel. Needless to say, we are beat.
Grace was a trooper today and slept for so much of it, we
are wondering if she is going to sleep tonight. More to
come tomorrow… |
