2008
We are sorry for posting this so late! Apparently, we had quite
a following during our trip to China. Our transition has been
great, aside from all of us trying to get back on US East Coast
time. The first couple nights were really rough, but Grace slept
12 hours last night- so we are all happy!
We started our day on Friday at about 4am China time and arrived
home on Saturday at about 11am China time, that was a 31 hour
trip. Our 15 hour flight home wasn’t too bad. Grace was really
good, she sat in her seat for much of the flight and watched
whatever Disney movie we picked for her. As you can see in the
picture, she totally didn’t mind wearing the headphones. We were
very careful to keep the volume low, but the pilot came on over
the PA at one point, VERY loud. Poor Grace freaked out. We
landed at Newark airport Friday afternoon and spent a few hours
at the airport Marriott with our family and friends from NJ/PA.
It was SO nice to see everyone- we were so warmly welcomed and
there was even a birthday party for Grace. We were lucky enough
to have 4 of Grace’s 5 grandparents there, as well as Grace’s
great grandmother, Nanni (who has been in and out of the
hospital, and not very well- age 93). The boys were really
excited to finally meet their girl cousin. All 3 of us were
somewhat like zombies, but it was nice that we were able to
spend some time with our family and friends. Thank you to all of
you that took the time off from work, took the kids out of
school, made the drive in the horrible weather, and made it a
point to be there for Grace’s homecoming and her birthday party!
After a one hour delay that felt like 12 hours, we left Newark
on our final leg of our journey home. Our great friend Eric
greeted us at Dulles Airport to take us home. We were so happy
to come home to groceries, flowers, balloons, and baked goods.
Thank you to our VA friends! We spent most of the weekend
sleeping all day and awake all night. We are finally adjusting,
and Christian is even back to work already.
Grace seems to like her new home; I think there are more toys
than she knows what to do with. Today she had her first doctor
appointment here. She is 29 inches and weighs only 17lbs 6oz,
which puts her at 50% for height and less than 5% in weight. She
must get that from her dad! She also had 3 vaccines. She did
really well, but was feeling kind of lousy later in the day.
Once she got a dose of Tylenol, and saw her dad walk in the
door, she was suddenly happy baby again. Grace also took her
first Little Gym class today and seemed to really enjoy it.
Everyone commented on how happy and smiley she was. Hopefully
she will be social!
Thanks again to our loyal audience! We’ll update monthly for a
while, so stay tuned.
Love from Virginia, Christian, Kara & Grace
