March 2008
We miss you Nanni! On Feb 22, 2008, we lost Kara’s grandmother,
Nanni. At the age of 93, she had been physically declining, but
still very sharp mentally. She fought through so many setbacks
and constantly said that she wanted to hold Grace just one time.
Nanni managed to be out of the hospital for a few days when we
came home, and we were so happy to see her at Grace’s homecoming
party, looking as beautiful as always. She cried when she saw
Grace, and I heard her say, ‘I waited for you’. Sadly, exactly 3
weeks later, Nanni left us to join Kara’s Poppi in Heaven. Until
the day she died, she kept Grace’s picture next to her in the
hospital, and made sure all of the nurses saw it. We are forever
grateful that we had Nanni in our lives for so long. We will
never forget that very special day when Nanni held Grace for
that one time.
We can’t believe we have been home with Grace a month already!
Her smiles and her giggles are the highlights of our days. She
is such a sweet and happy baby, and has adjusted tremendously to
life in her new home. She sleeps from 8pm to 7am straight every
night. She seems to love her crib and her room. We are so lucky
that we can put her in her crib, read a story and say good
night. Same goes for naps; she typically has 2 a day. She loves
to sit on the floor and play with her toys, exploring every
little inch of each plastic piece. She seems very inquisitive
and very interested in the world around her. She loves music,
and proudly claps for us anytime we say, ‘Yeah!’. She also loves
sitting in her exersaucer, where she can get Daddy to dance by
playing the music. The Little Gym class is great, and Grace
loves it. I’m sure she misses seeing all of her little friends,
so the class gives her some time to be with people her own size.
We are working on solid foods still, we’re seeing a tiny bit of
improvement everyday. She’ll open up for a spoonful of yogurt
here and there, and happily lick the salt off of our French
fries. We have gotten into a habit of going out to lunch, and
Grace is happy to sit in the highchair and watch everything
around her. This week, Grace started pulling up to a stand
position. This was a big accomplishment- and she seems so proud
of herself. We go back to the doctor next week, so we’ll see how
she is growing, but we think she is sprouting! Life is good with
