May 2008

It’s finally spring in Virginia! We have been spending lots of time outside, either taking walks with the stroller, pushing Grace in her little pink buggy, or in her little swing that Daddy recently hung. This month has been a huge development month for Grace. She is officially eating baby food. She even eats yogurt and cold fruit. After one visit with the speech pathologist, she even took a few sips of water from a straw. She is starting to explore with her mouth, cautiously putting some of her toys near her lips and sometimes in her mouth. We are so happy to be overcoming the feeding issue. We even got Grace a new retro looking high chair. Grace is officially doing an inch worm crawl, she still needs to plop down on her belly, but she is definitely able to get around. She hit a huge milestone this month when she finally figured out how to get from a laying position to a sitting position. She still shows a big smile every time she gets up- she is so proud of herself. She stands pretty well also, and takes a few steps while holding our hands. She is definitely attached to both of us and loves to be held, hugged and cuddled. When we leave at naptime or bedtime, she pulls the bumper down and holds on to the rail to watch us leave. It’s so sweet- we stand at the door and blow her kisses. She also knows how to blow kisses, wave, do ‘so big’, and shows us her nose, her belly and her hands. It’s clear that she understands so much now. We are pretty sure that she knowingly says dada, mama and baby. Grace had her 15 month check up this week. She is up to 20 lbs, 9 oz and 30 inches.

This month we had a nice visit with Kara’s family for Matthew’s first communion. Grace was a great traveler again and seemed to really enjoy playing with her cousins and getting passed around by her aunties, Grammy and Poppi. Kara started back to work this month, so Grace started ‘school’ (daycare). So far she is doing really well, after the initial tears when mommy leaves, she really enjoys being around the other kids. Luckily, it’s been a pretty smooth adjustment for all of us!

Not a day goes by that we don’t think about how blessed we are to have this beautiful child in our lives. The name Grace is so fitting. Our daughter is a very sweet and happy little girl. As Mother’s Day approaches, it’s hard not to think about Grace’s birthmother. Sometimes, we just stare at Grace and wonder what her birthparents look like. We hope that they have peace in their hearts with a hope that the little baby they left behind has a wonderful life with her forever family.
