July 2008

I have to say, I am very glad that June is over. After Christian’s first surgery (on May 8), he got very sick with symptoms beyond normal surgery recovery. After an additional 10 days in the hospital, it appears as if he had a mono type virus or severe drug reactions, or a combination of both. We obviously had not planned for the additional hospital stay, and needless to say, it’s been quite hectic around here! Thankfully, his health improved in time for the second surgery, which was on June 25. So far, this recovery is going well and we are all happy to be home and getting back to normal. We were lucky again to have some great help! Grammy Lowell, Grammy & Poppi Manning, Grandpop and DeeDee and even Aunt Peggy and Matthew came to help out with Christian duty and Grace duty! Grace had so much fun playing with her boyfriend Matthew. Grace has been such a good sport through all of it- always seeming to enjoy the extra people around to play with her.

Grace is very mobile now- she practically runs when you hold her hands to let her walk. She will make sure that she takes your left hand with her left hand and right with right, so she can be the leader when she walks. She can stand alone for a few seconds, until she decides it’s fun to fall on whoever is closest to her. She has a great personality; she loves to make us laugh. She doesn’t say too many words, but she can communicate with us very well. She knows almost all of her body parts and loves to comb her hair and pretend to talk on the phone. She can sign: more, all done, milk, book and ball. She says moo and woof and sings e-i-e-i-o. Her favorite DVD is the Baby Einstein farm animals. She is still so easy and happy- and we thank God for that each night when she finishes her bottle and we put her in her crib, give her a kiss and a hug, say goodnight and close the door. Not a peep until morning. Grace’s daycare is awesome- she gets so much love and attention and really enjoys being around the other kids. She has even had a few field trips! We are so happy that the time she spends there is so much fun for her.
