WE ARE FINALLY HOME!!!

It’s hard to believe that we have been home for four weeks now. In hindsight we had a fairly smooth trip home. We left Taipei at 11:45pm on Monday, August 31st and landed in LA around 9:00pm west coast time. As we landed in Los Angeles we saw the wildfires outside of the city. Ella slept for about nine hours on the plane, so that was great. She did really well except for the last excruciatingly, long hour. She was very upset that we wouldn’t let her get down and walk around. She was crying so loudly that the flight attendant brought her and Cate a rock candy sucker. Normally, I wouldn’t let a baby have a sucker, but at that point, we were desperate. I think every passenger on the plane ended up sticky, but at least she was quiet. We decided it would be better to trap her in the carrier, so I strapped her in for the next flight from LA to Chicago. When she realized escape was impossible, she just slept the whole flight, which was 3 ½ hours long. Yeah!!! We were almost home now. The flight from Chicago to Louisville was not very crowded, so we headed to the back of the plane and warned anyone near us that they might want to move to the front. Ella ended up doing fine, so it was a fairly easy trip. We landed in Louisville ahead of schedule at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 1st.

We prepared ourselves for many sleepless nights. It usually takes about a week to recover from the jetlag, and we expected Ella to be so unsettled in her new environment, that one of us would have to sleep in her room with her. We even set-up a twin bed in her room in anticipation of those issues. I’m so thrilled to say that she is an excellent sleeper. I’ve only had to sleep in her room one night when she was sick. I rock her and sing to her as she takes her night time bottle, and then I put her in the crib, wide awake, and she sleeps. She sleeps 12-13 hours every night. What a little angel. She is such a cuddlier and always wants lots of kisses. It is so obvious to us that her foster family loved her very much and made her feel very loved and secure.

Thank you all for joining us on this journey. We feel so blessed to have Ella home with us and part of our family. She has made our family complete.
