Our Family  Merry Christmas 2007

Wendel and I have been married 12 years and are blessed with two sweet boys, Carter and Cole.

We live a relatively simple life on a large farm in Virginia! We are both antique junkies! Wendel enjoys collecting antique tractors and I enjoy collecting anything and everything ‘old’ ! We live in an older restored farmhouse that belonged in his family and I enjoy hooking wool rugs, sewing folk art dolls, and painting murals appropriate to the home’s age. Wendel owns and operates a family Livestock business as well as a Tire Store here locally. I am nearing completion of my registered nursing degree and looking forward to working part-time as an OB nurse and raising three children! Carter is in the 3rd grade while Cole is in 1st. They’re inseparable playmates, and are absolutely ecstatic that they’re getting a little sister from Guatemala!

Our adoption journey began in January 2007. There could not have been a more inappropriate time to begin talking about adopting! I was smack dab in the middle of nursing school, and Wendel was recuperating from a vehicle accident from just 4 months prior to this. When I approached Wendel with the idea of adopting, he responded just as expected. I think his exact words were “Are you serious?” “Have you lost your mind?” Nonetheless, everything in my heart and soul was telling me that for some unknown reason, we were being led to bring another child into our family, only this time through adoption. Several months, sleepless nights, long talks, and lots of prayers later, we both decided to follow what we felt was God’s calling and decided to adopt internationally! After researching Countries and agencies via the internet, we knew our child was in Guatemala and found a wonderful agency called Adopt-A-Miracle in Lakewood, Colorado. Our adoption co-ordinator is Kelly and she is kind, efficient and highly recommended! We chose Commonwealth Catholic Charities to complete our home study. Mary Beth is our social worker who has been wonderful to work with as well!

Cole
Carter is our ball of energy! He enjoys playing baseball, the x-box 360, reading, writing, drawing, and playing the guitar. He is a such a caring child, and a wonderful blessing to our family !

Carter’s letter to Ella:
Dear Ella, I can’t wait to get you ! I am so happy I will have a brother and now a sister too! I will help you a lot ‘cause I love you. You will love it here and your room is really cool. I’ll feed you cheerios and maybe help change your diaper. I love you, ~Carter.
Cole is our kind hearted animal lover! He enjoys anything to do with our farm! He likes riding his four-wheeler, helping feed the sheep, cows, and riding Mitty , our black stallion. Cole is a true blessing and brings such joy to us all!

Cole’s letter to Ella:
Dear Ella, I can’t wait till you get here! I will play games with you. We will have so much fun. You will love it here on the farm. I will share with you too. I love you, ~ Cole
