**Welcome Home Open House**
July 18th 2 - 6 pm
At Lilli's House
We have been very busy since we have been home. Lilli has been
adjusting very well. This week she went back to the pediatrician
where we got some lab reports back. Good news--she is rid of all
intestinal parasites, so we shouldn't have any more surprises!
All the other tests came back normal which means she is healthy.
She had two shots so far and we are awaiting more test results
to see if her vaccinations from China took.
Lilli did great until the nurse and doctor came in. Let's just
say that Cheerio's and other treats only distracted her a
little...yes, she screamed most of the visit, to the point that
the doctor had a difficult time hearing her heart. He did say he
could hear a mild murmur (which we knew about from the China
medical reports) and had referred us to a pediatric cardiologist
at Hope Children's Hospital.
On June 17th, we went to get her echocardiogram at Hope
Children's Hospital. We knew this wasn't going to be easy,
seeing as if Lilli is scared of strangers and it's scary, I'm
sure, to have electrodes and wires on your chest. She screamed
and was inconsolable for at least 15 minutes when the technician
tried to do the echocardiogram. It was a VERY stressful visit,
to the point, the medical staff thought we'd have to make
another appointment to sedate her. So we held rocked her in the
dark room, and after about a half hour we tried again. This time
Julie laid across her shoulders with her blanket covering what
the technician was doing and Aaron (the entertainer) played the
"drop the sock of the table and pick it up" game. Lilli did much
better and then Dr. Griffin (cardiologist) got a good view of
her heart.
Dr. Griffin gave us fabulous news--he said he has no worries
about Lilli's heart and that we had a lot to be thankful for.
While she still has the hole in her heart, it is smaller than a
year ago in, so it is taking care of itself. He said Lilli does
not need surgery and said she has no physical restrictions or
limitations. He said he'd just like to monitor her over time. He
predicts that the hole will continue to close over time and if
it doesn't, we probably won't need to do anything until she is
about 20 years old.
Lilli is healthy!! Our prayers have been answered.
Other than doctors visits, Lilli has progressed nicely. She is a
great eater, and loves pancakes! In fact, she will eat most
meals we fix for ourselves. She sleeps throught the night, only
waking if she has a wet diaper or if she needs to be covered.
She will now let us rock her in the rocking chair--which has
been such a blessing on our arms and legs! She looks at Flower
and says "Woo-Woo" (her version of "Woof Woof)--it's very cute.
She has learned the sign for "more" (and uses it when she wants
to) and we taught her a sign for "swallow". This sign she has
mastered which is very good, because she would just want us to
shovel food in her mouth which wasn't good. She also has
mastered the best kisses in the world and has the cutest pucker! |
