About Will

Will was born on February 25, 2007, and he is currently living in foster care in Taiyuan City, the capital of Shanxi Province.

A sampling* of what we know (and love) about Will already:
·His foster grandma is very special to him.
·He is a deep sleeper, and he sucks his finger (thumb?).
·He enjoys playing outside.+
·He likes music and singing.+
·He loves toys.+
·He likes to play kung fu!+

*Technically this is not a “sampling” as it is actually a complete list of everything we know about him.

+The combination of the last four could have more succinctly been captured as “He is a 2 year old boy.”

A sampling of what we do not yet know about Will:
·Xbox or Wii
·Chocolate or Vanilla
·Boxers or Briefs (Actually, we know that the current answer is neither.)
·Everything else…

WILL'S NAME

William: The five of us had a rough time agreeing on a first name, but we finally chose the one name that we all love: Will! We are especially thrilled that Will’s name honors several special family members. (Will was almost “Max”, because Mike liked the name and liked the symbolism of communicating that our fourth child was, indeed, our max. While writing this, Mike is now worried that he may have lost on both fronts…)

Elliot: It is a true joy for our son’s name to honor the late Dr. Mark Elliot Lovett, who introduced Mike to Jesus and demonstrated, by example, what it looked like to have an intimate friendship with Jesus. Will’s adoption is very, very much a fruit of Mark’s short but abundant time on earth. (Mark was actually named after the martyred missionary, Jim Elliot, who famously said, “He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”)

Heritage name: We will preserve part of Will’s Chinese name, Zhao Huang Cong, in order to honor his wonderful heritage. It is our hope that we’ll have the opportunity to meet Will’s foster parents during our time in his hometown, and we look forward to learning what he is most commonly called.
