About Quinn

“Never place a period where God has placed a comma...”  ~Grace Allen

LAN YONG ZHOU 兰 永 洲
兰 Lan means orchid
永 Yong means forever; always
洲 Zhou means continent; island

We have chosen his name to be:
Quinn Joseph Yong
Joseph after Baba (Daddy - Darryl Wayne Joseph) and Yong for the beautiful meaning and to also keep part of his Chinese heritage.

Quinn was found on July 14, 2007 by a policeman from the Xi Gu City local police station. The station received the "110" order that there was an abandoned boy by the outside door of "Lan Xing Zuo". "Lan Xing Zuo" is/was a karaoke center. After doing a lot of searching for his birth parents with no success he was taken to the Children’s Welfare Institute of Lanzhou City, Gansu on August 9, 2007. Since Quinn was not found with a note containing his date of birth his birthday was estimated to be July 9, 2007.

I received an email from our agency on July 20, 2011 asking me if our family would ever be open to a little boy. At that time we were not on any agency list waiting to be matched with a child. It was like an unexpected pregnancy. Here I was looking at the most adorable little boy who was in need of a forever family. Were we his family? I had no idea how I was going to explain to Darryl that I had a referral sitting in my inbox. You see part of my heart was left in China when I traveled to bring home our daughter back in October 2010. I knew I had another child there even though I tried to convince myself that our family was complete. Darryl was no way on board for another child. He was sure our family was complete. So, for almost 2 days I starred at Quinn’s pictures. His referral package contained 13 photos! Our kids where putting the pressure on their Daddy to please just LOOK at Quinn. I know Darryl thought we all lost our minds by this point. He couldn’t believe we already named this little boy. Well, the kids got to him and he said he would “just” look. One look – that is all it took. Quinn your forever family is coming for you VERY SOON!

Every call has a beginning.
A quiet moment when God whispers a promise to a mother’s heart
A holy place where a father bows and faithfully
accepts the journey set before him
A miraculous morning that unexpectedly dawns…
Casting its first light on a chosen threshold
A gentle knock…
a closed door opens.
A sacred invitation sent by the Father…
Leads to the other side of the world.
Where lonely hearts stare out orphanage windows
Praying for someone to care…
And then one morning,
On an ordinary day
An orphan’s life changes...
God sends them a second chance...
Through you.

I Would Gather Children

Some would gather money
Along the path of life,
Some would gather roses,
And rest from worldly strife.

But I would gather children
From among the thorns of sin,
I would seek their twinkling eyes,
And reveal mischievous grins.

For money cannot enter
In that land of endless day,
And roses that are gathered
Soon will wilt along the way.

But oh, the laughing children,
As I cross the sunset sea,
And the gates swing wide to heaven
I can take them in with me!
