OFFICIALLY –
QUINN JOSEPH YONG MCKAY!
We made it through the night. It took a long time for Quinn to
fall asleep and he didn’t sleep very long. I had a 5:30 wake-up
call so I could shower “before” he got up and not have to worry
about him escaping or getting into mischief. Well, he was up at
5:40 and he would not let me out of his sight. So, no shower for
me.
Quinn woke up soaked! I did not put a pull-up on him last night
as I didn’t want to stress him any further. He was so cold. He
is so tiny. He will be 5 in July, but he is like the size of a 3
year old. I have to keep reminding myself that he is older than
Savannah! He wants to do everything for himself and it is so
funny because he just looks too small to do many things alone.
He is extremely independent.
Quinn and I enjoyed our 1st breakfast buffet together. He ate
really well this morning. He loved his congee. I had a difficult
time selecting my breakfast as most of the selections were
Chinese dishes. I decided on fried rice, watermelon, rye toast
and coffee. Their coffee cups are so small. I am looking forward
to Guangzhou at the end of the week to order a VERY large cup of
coffee! Starbucks will be in our hotel!!!
Today, in the eyes of the Chinese government, Quinn is
officially ours forever! The paperwork seemed so less
overwhelming this time around. Everything went very smoothly and
both Quinn and I gave our red stamp of approval.
After all our official business our guide, Echo, took us out for
a Chinese lunch. Lanzhou, Gansu is known for spicy foods. We had
white rice, spicy green beans and spicy potatoes. They were
delicious and really spicy! After lunch, we walked around the
city in search of some clothes for Quinn. I needed some long
sleeve shirts for him. I found him a couple of items and then we
headed back to the hotel. I knew Quinn was exhausted as he had
bags under his eyes. I wanted to try to get him to nap. I was
successful!
After Quinn’s nap we had an appointment at the passport office
for him. We were only there about 15 minutes and all was
complete. This was it – all the paperwork was DONE! Today was so
easy thanks to our amazing guide and driver.
It was now dinnertime and I decided to make dinner in our room.
Leaving the hotel is very stressful for Quinn. We do not think
he was outside of the orphanage very much. We stopped at a
Supermarket and picked up some noodles, milk and snacks for
Quinn. I got enough for 3-4 days and it cost a total of $10.00!
Quinn was in his glory eating back in the room. I was needing a
coffee and called room service. I know – desperate. My teacup
was delivered about 10 minutes later with a bill of $6.50! Holy
COW – for 2 sips of COLD coffee! It was still worth it as I
couldn’t make coffee in our room as I didn’t have a cup.
We finished out our evening by calling home to Baba (Daddy),
Nana and the kiddos. Quinn was very, very excited and loved
talking to everyone. He even blew kisses. Truly amazing!
Tomorrow will be an emotional day for me. I will go to Quinn’s
finding spot. This is something I was not able to do before.
Savannah’s finding spot was just too far away from where we were
staying. This will be an extra piece of Quinn’s story that I
will be able to share with him one day.
Quinn is out for the night – I hope! I am going to try to
“sneak” to the shower now….it might be my only chance!
Good Night…..
