GOODBYE LANZHOU –
HELLO GUANGZHOU

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. ~Seneca

Today was a new beginning for Quinn. He said goodbye to his birth city – Lanzhou. Last night and this morning were very stressful for him as I packed up our luggage and prepared for our flight to Guangzhou. He was stressed and scared of the unknown that lay ahead of him.

Quinn was happy to see Echo and Zhang this morning. Zhang was already checking out for me by the time I made it downstairs to the lobby. I was even early. Remember the picture I posted of Quinn’s new shoes with pen marks on our comforter? Well, little did I know I was going to have to pay for the comforter! The hotel wanted me to pay $80.00 to replace the comforter. Zhang told them to wash it! I was cracking up. He knows so many people and has been doing his job for a very long time. I had to show the pens Quinn used to make my case that they were washable. In the meantime, the bell boy comes to the desk with the comforter – showing the evidence. I couldn’t believe what was going on. Echo takes the comforter to the restroom as she was going to wash a spot of it out with soap to prove to the staff that it will come out. She returns and it was almost out and together she and Zhang tell them to wash it and use bleach. Oh my word…..this should have been on tape. They did it! I paid nothing. Good thing because I told Echo if I was paying $80.00 for that comforter then I was taking it home with me!

We began our one hour journey to the airport. Echo actually lives in another province now so she had a plane to catch too. This worked out perfect as she stayed with us until boarding time. She was able to talk to Quinn a lot about the airplane ride. He seemed to really understand and was very excited. I wanted to check 3 bags so I could just carry on my backpack. This would allow me to be hands free to focus on Quinn. I knew I would be overweight and have to pay. Well, not with Zhang! He knew the teller and I was good to go with no penalty. This man is truly amazing.

Once Quinn and I boarded the plane he seemed to be fine. The two biggest issues I had with him were with the seatbelt and his constant potty breaks. He wouldn’t wear his seatbelt at all. I tried, but he screamed bloody murder. He does not like to be confined. I had the same problem with Savannah on her 1st flight. The second issue I didn’t have with Savannah. Quinn is going to the potty a lot. I have talked to our pediatrician at home and she thinks it may be stress. She really can’t say for sure, but in new situations or when we are out and about he has to go ALL THETIME. He went 5 times in one hour on the plane. How am I going to manage on a 16 hour flight home? Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I put a pull-up on him (just in case), but he isn’t going to purposely go in it. He was yelling potty so bad that a lady in front of me handed me a CUP! So, once again….when in China do as the Chinese do. Quinn went in the cup. BUT – that left me with a cup full of urine! Never a dull moment.

Our flight was suppose to land at 3:20pm and didn’t land until 4:10pm. I have no idea why, but we just circled around the airport for 50 minutes waiting to land. Quinn was sleeping so that was a plus. Once we landed we gathered our luggage and found our “new” guide and driver and headed for the Marriott – China Hotel. Well, wouldn’t ya know it…..Quinn had to go to the potty AGAIN! We were in major traffic so there was no way to pull over and find a tree. The driver hands me a plastic bag. Oh, this is getting better and better. Now I have a bag of urine. Quinn is never going to hear the end of this when he is older.

Our guide, Winnie, checks us in and takes us to our room. It is gorgeous. Quinn checked it all out while I unpacked. We then took a short walk to Starbucks and 7-Eleven. Tomorrow is Quinn’s medical exam and I hope to have some free time for shopping. I really haven’t had much time to SHOP!

Overall, Quinn did really well today. It is really HOT and MUGGY here. It is Guangzhou’s rainy season though and I very much do not like rain. I will just have to deal.

Good night from Guangzhou!
