FOUR MONTHS HOME
Life is nothing without a little chaos to make it interesting.
~Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Time flies……yet stands still! Another month has come and gone so
quickly, but our days are still long and hard. Change is
inevitable and Quinn doesn’t do well with change at all. Change
is so hard on him. The biggest change for Quinn this past month
has been school. He is now a kindergartener! He proudly tells us
that he “goes to BIG school” with Hunter. However, the
transition has not been easy for any us.
School has created a lot of anxiety for Quinn. The first week of
school was everything but smooth. We were all aching for him. He
was excited, scared and confused. He cried – he screamed – he
wanted his Mama – he wanted his Baba – he wanted his siblings.
All we could do was keep reassuring him that we would always be
there for him and that he would always come home after school.
Hmmm – getting home from school. That presented a new challenge
as well. Perhaps not for Quinn, but for everyone else on the
bus! We still have Quinn in a car seat so being on a big bus
proved to be a complete disaster. He did not stay seated at all.
They tried the seatbelt on him, but he just unbuckled it and
took off down the aisle. Hunter is on the bus with Quinn and
tried his best to get Quinn to sit. The problem with that is
that Quinn is EXTREMELY strong. So, no way – Quinn was up and
running all over the bus. The driver tells Darryl she is
changing the bus route so that Quinn is the 1st one off each
day! While she is telling Darryl the change in route, Quinn is
grabbing her CB radio to “talk” into it! The kids on the bus
were now cracking up! Poor hubby was trying to listen to the
driver plus pry Quinn off the bus. Really – what’s next?
We are now 5 weeks into school. Quinn LOVES his big school, his
teachers and all his new friends. His teacher is phenomenal. We
are blessed that Quinn was placed with her. She is so
compassionate and loves Quinn. She has made the last few weeks
so much better for this Mama. Quinn started ESL this week and we
are excited to watch his progress.
Quinn had several evaluations this past month. He had speech,
hearing and PT. He will return in October for an OT evaluation.
His results are looking very age appropriate thus far. The only
great delay we are finding is with his speech. However, the
delay is based on his abilities using his native language –
Chinese. We really do not know how much Chinese he has retained
at this point so we wonder if the results are truly accurate.
Savannah was invited to a bounce house birthday party. Picture a
warehouse full of bounce houses, arcade games and screaming
children. It was very noisy and I thought for sure it would be
too much for Quinn to handle, but we decided to give it a shot.
Hunter and I took Quinn while Savannah attended her party. Quinn
did great! He loved all the bounce houses and the noise didn’t
seem to bother him at all. He was fearless, crazy wild and OH SO
HAPPY! I think I found a place for him to burn off some excess
energy.
Our weather has definitely changed. The leaves are beautiful
colors and the temperatures have dropped. Quinn is already
telling us he is cold! OH boy – wait till it snows! Quinn got a
new winter hat – Mickey Mouse! He is ready!
We are looking forward to the month of October. We will be
celebrating Savannah’s 2nd Gotcha Day, enjoying Halloween and
welcoming Quinn’s cousin, Shane, home from Navy boot
camp/A-school!
