About Sarah

Chinese Name: Fu Bao Ping
Born: January 26, 2006
Province: Jiangxi

Fu Bao Ping was born in the Jiangxi Province of the Peoples Republic of China. She was found on July 24, 2006 at the entrance to a local farmer’s market. The doctor who examined her determined her birthdate to be January 26, 2006. She is currently in foster care through the Fuzhou City Social Welfare Institute.

Little Sarah is suffering from a couple of overlaying congenital heart defects. I am sure some of you are familiar with ASD/VSD. These are atrial septal defect and ventricular septal defect respectively. Her atrial septum has a very significant hole in it, rendering her atrium a single chamber (instead of the usual two). The ventricular septum has a fairly small hole in it. However, her left ventricle is significantly smaller than her right though it is functioning. And finally, her right ventricle has a double outlet. This means that both the pulmonary artery and the aorta are exiting through the right ventricle instead of the pulmonary artery through the right and the aorta exiting the left ventricle. Am I confusing anyone yet? Her body is compensating beautifully right now, though she does appear blue (cyanotic) in the lips and tips of her fingers when she is active. We have consulted with a marvelous pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Michael Womack, here in Boise, Idaho and he will assume her care when she arrives home.

I think that loving a little child
And bringing him to his own,
Is a darned sight better business
Than loafing around the throne :)
-JOHN HAY, Little Breeches

So far, we only know that she will need at least one open heart surgery. Her doctor is confident that they will be able to help her in a myriad of ways and to expect GREAT things. We are keeping our faith in our Father in Heaven and we are so appreciative of all the wonderful family and friends who support us. God has placed such “giants” of goodness in our path and we are forever grateful that Sarah will come home to such love.

When we return home, we will post more information on our Surgery Updates link. So stay tuned while we continue to update The Story of Sarah.
